I first waited before the petrol station, but when I switched to the exit of the petrol station I quickly got a ride to Edirne. He invited me for some food and helped me.―Anonymous

Got dropped of at the split of the highway and then walked onto the highway towards Edirne. First a local woman stopped, but she'd only go into the next town and not long after a Turkish truck driver took me to a truck park close to the border.―Anonymous

Police don't let you HH where the cars and trucks lanes merge and ask you to go to the Shell petrol station where a lot of people wander around.Choose your lane regarding traffic and try to HH before the mosque so they don't see you, it should work better.
In general a sign to Edirne to get out of the border asap is a good strategy.

A service station and several shops just behind the border. All cars/trucks go this way, so hitch a ride here towards Plovdiv/Bulgaria!―Anonymous

waited about 4 minutes to get a direct lift to istanbul with a truck. there are 2 roads after the boarder, one for cars one for trucks, the best spot is where these roads are crossing!―Dersoeren

I was walking towards the border and a guy offered to take me to İstanbul. As I was waiting at the Turkish side for the guy and his car to get across the border another car offered to take me. Of course I got lucky but I think the spot just after the 2nd border check post is good because cars are still going slow. If noone picks you up at this spot after a long time, walk back to the border and try there.―Lopotour2

We tried autostop, asking drivers.. Nothing helped, so we took dolmus to Edirne and then autobus (metro company) to Istanbul for 15 euro/person.. But traffic is really good.. But as you said, full cars. (we slept on Shell station)―Sruby

Good spot, but I had a local gypsy hang around and try to talk to me which made it appear we were hitching together. Only got a ride when he moved on, but still managed a lift to Istanbul in under an hour.―Looking for Stu

We got a lift from here directly to Romania, after 30 minutes waiting (but it was night); I don't know if it's better here or in the other part of the border if you want to go to Romania. We had the feelings that the this is the wrong way to Romania, even though we got a truck―Frederic Henry

Kapitan Andreevo just sucks. Try walking out of it. The new, big highway will be ready in a few years which will probably make things easier.―Podz

Going to Bulgaria, it wasn't easy at all. Tried twice on the road around Kaptian Andreevo. Bulgarian people almost never stopped and even turkish truck drivers that I've made good experiences with in Turkey, didn't stop. Maybe it was just bad luck. But one truck driver said that if I stand directly at the point where trucks leave the border station they are way more inclined to stop. Didn't try it though.―Jopoking
