Bad spot. Very few cars which go to gas station, most of them are not friendly tbh. Quite all of the cars are full with people or with their stuff. Right after gas station sometimes there chill border police, we got lucky to be with them the whole day. They tell not to go to the exit of gas station because it’s dangerous. Fortunately after around 5-6 hours of waiting time at around 10 pm we got a lift to Sofia.―ptulish

Two Persons, got many offers in the direction of Istanbul but we declined and waited for our old direct ride (truck driver)Don’t use a sign or be to obvious otherwise you will get send behind the last gate (not that bad really if that happens)

I first waited before the petrol station, but when I switched to the exit of the petrol station I quickly got a ride to Edirne. He invited me for some food and helped me.―Suip

Got dropped of at the split of the highway and then walked onto the highway towards Edirne. First a local woman stopped, but she'd only go into the next town and not long after a Turkish truck driver took me to a truck park close to the border.―Suip

Police don't let you HH where the cars and trucks lanes merge and ask you to go to the Shell petrol station where a lot of people wander around.Choose your lane regarding traffic and try to HH before the mosque so they don't see you, it should work better.
In general a sign to Edirne to get out of the border asap is a good strategy.

A service station and several shops just behind the border. All cars/trucks go this way, so hitch a ride here towards Plovdiv/Bulgaria!―Anonymous

We tried autostop, asking drivers.. Nothing helped, so we took dolmus to Edirne and then autobus (metro company) to Istanbul for 15 euro/person.. But traffic is really good.. But as you said, full cars. (we slept on Shell station)―Sruby

I was walking towards the border and a guy offered to take me to İstanbul. As I was waiting at the Turkish side for the guy and his car to get across the border another car offered to take me. Of course I got lucky but I think the spot just after the 2nd border check post is good because cars are still going slow. If noone picks you up at this spot after a long time, walk back to the border and try there.―Lopotour2

waited about 4 minutes to get a direct lift to istanbul with a truck. there are 2 roads after the boarder, one for cars one for trucks, the best spot is where these roads are crossing!―Dersoeren
