I got a ride 5m down the road from the third car that came, but I don't recommend taking such short distance rides.A police car stopped me from hitchhiking on the highway, saying it's illegal. And there wasn't much traffic either (2PM on Friday)

This spot would be good if not for one small thing. This is Greece, country famous for not being to hitchhiking friendly and we are very close to a Turkish border which is probably making hh here even harder. From positives there are 3 petrol stations here, place for car to stop and not too bad amount of traffic but litteraly no one stops. A lot of people were turning around here and showing me that and that's all from driver's reactions. Only car that stopped was police but fortunately they only checked my passport and wished me a good luck, I gave that spot 2 instead of 1 star only thanks to very nice staff of shell petrol station that bought me some snacks and water while I was WAITING, because of how shitty hh worked here I slept nearby this spot and then took a train to Aoexandropoli to try hitchhiking from there. My general advice is DON'T COME TO THIS PART OF GREECE IF YOU WANT TO HITCHHIKE, JUST DON'T, IT'S NOT WORTH IT―Autostopeks

First car stopped in like 5 minutes but it was a Turkish border guard who could only take me to the border and confirmed that I can't cross it on foot so I declined, than after some time has passed Turkish military truck stopped and they told me that I can't stay here, that this is closed military area and that I need to get closer to the roundebad(I originally standed right between that spot and border itself). So I moved to this spot and first car I thumbed to stopped and after I showed the driver my eu passport he took me to Greece―Autostopeks

First I tried at the end of shell gas station but after being there for 10 minutes I saw big dig approaching this station from direction of second one further down the road and as I remembered warning regarding aggressive dogs on that station left by somebody on this map I decided to change my spot and moved to small path right before place where truck and car lanes merge. I stood centrally in between of them and used my right thumb to flag trucks and left thumb to flag cars. Unfortunately most trucks ignored me or showed that they aren't going far. With cars most of them were Bulgarians who probably only went for probably cheaper fuel and back home, many of them even showed me that they aren't going far. They were some Turks too but they weren't stopping and I still needed to stand here for long time. Police only once stopped, they checked my passport and asked me what I'm doing, then they just left and didn't say anything to me so I continued hitchhiking here. I camped nearby in a tent and nobody saw me aldo in the evening I heard some people talking near me, probably border guards but they didn't find me, spot in which I camped is next to a small river going to the main border river very close to Greek border. To get there you need to walk from the border crossing to Turkish general speed limit sign (right next to ATMs) and then turn right towards Greece, you will see big empty field that's supposed to be a parking lot. You need to go through it close to the right side of it (don't be afraid of proximity to the police building) and wall till you see a place in which there is gap in fence and ground goes down. Go there and that's the spot. It's quite secured from unwanted eyes thanks to it being in lower terrain, not perfect but it worked for me―Autostopeks

Just a marking that you can cross this border on foot. On Bulgarian side it doesn't matter if you cross this border in car checkpoint or in buss checkpoint but on Turkish side you can do it only on bus checkpoint―Autostopeks

Very bad spot in my opinion. Not much traffic and everybody was showing to me that he isn't going far away. At the end I just sat on the side of road and started looking on Google maps for place to sleep but somebody stopped and took me to the border―Autostopeks

Got scooped up super quick with a sign for Plovdiv. Takes an hour and a bit to get there but there is a Lidl near the last bust stop to get food and water.Guys ended up driving 2 hours out of their way to drop us at the boarder

You cross the border on foot (possible in 2026) and walk towards this spot. Then wait for truck drivers and simply give them a thumbs-up. The Serbian truck driver gave me a 550km ride all the way to Niš. I did not wait more than 10min.―Tales

Bad spot. Very few cars which go to gas station, most of them are not friendly tbh. Quite all of the cars are full with people or with their stuff. Right after gas station sometimes there chill border police, we got lucky to be with them the whole day. They tell not to go to the exit of gas station because it’s dangerous. Fortunately after around 5-6 hours of waiting time at around 10 pm we got a lift to Sofia.―ptulish

Did take 10min for a Truck Driver to pick me up. Medium traffic on a sunday, I tried a few other spots for hours but this seems to be the best. Truck have a toll station so they go slow. He organised another truck via CB-Radio (see next stop). Just head hear immediately if you‘re in the area. One more local men was waiting, so it seems to be a common spot.―GermanyToIndia
