Although cars come here with quite a bit of speed, there is a lot of space to safely pull over. This spot is probably better when there is little traffic. Got a direct ride to Montreal in 20 minutes.

Logical spot for Quebec people heading towards Montreal. There isn't much space to pull over, so it's safer when there isn't much traffic. Still a lot of local traffic too, so the offer varies.

I went there going to Montreal looking at the first comment, i guess i got really unlucky because i took me 2 hours to get my first ride ... and it was really short. Took me 6 hours to get to Montreal. Unfortunately walking on the 417 in Ontario is forbidden, so no choice but waiting on the ramp !

to hitchhike to Toronto this is the best way from Ottawa. Yes Ottawa/Toronto drivers are mostly dicks but if you look like a student and clean you should be able to hitch a ride in under 30 minutes.
