Destination: Chuzhou, Nanjing, BeijingToll gates. Loads of cars going towards the north. Staff doesn't mind hitchers at all.
In order to get here from the lakeside (Eastern bank):
1. Take the bus no 12 going towards 三塘竹苑.
2. After around 30-40 minutes ride get off at 香积寺路口. (bus stops are quite well signposted)
For a while you will be going along the huge elevated road. Your bus stop is the first one after the bus turns right, leaving the elevated road behind.
3. Go back to the street running along the elevated road. Turn right. After a very short walk you'll arrive at the stop 上塘路香积寺路口. Take the bus no K191.
The bus stop is located in front of the quite big shopping centre, tons of people around.
4. The bus will follow the elevated road for a longer time before taking the turn left. After a while it will rejoin the express way.
After around 40-50 minutes ride (depending on the traffic conditions) the bus will take turn the right, leaving the small highway junction. You should be able to see the toll gates already from here.
Get off at the first stop after the junction - 郎家滨.
Go back to the junction. Turn right, walking along the highway (it's perfectly fine for the pedestrians to stroll around, just exercise enough caution for the speeding cars)
After around 15 minutes walk you should arrive at the toll gates. Stand just in front of one the booths.
It took me less than an hour to get a long-distance ride which took me far beyond Nanjing.

Toll Gate - good spot for rides towards Shanghai (waiting time 15 minutes, staff didn't let me stand on the highway side of the gates though). To get here take the metro (Linping line) to Nanyuan station. Walk five minutes South along Yingbin Rd to the toll gates.―Anonymous
