Hitching on the ferry is quite possible, but you have to pay your own ticket (18 kuna = 4 euros). while on the ferry, try to get rides for further on.

On the ferry from Brestova, towards Cres town.

When on the ferry, make a sign for Cres (town) and go stand at the front. People on the boat will see you and you'll most probably have a ride before the cars even start driving off.

Longer distance (to Losinj island) should be possible, much traffic is headed there.

Labin, along D66, toward Opatija, Brestova (for Cres ferry) and Rijeka)

Spot is ok, although traffic can be light even in summer. There is much room for cars to stop, even trucks could easily park here. Little bit of shadow, too and a hypermarket across the street for snacks or water.

Got a ride to Brestova after 15-20 min.
