we 3 were trying to get to Calais/Dover. a very nice person from Lille took us to this station from the A1. it was much better than the A1 as all traffic was going the right direction. we met lots of people who were going to England via the ferry. eventually, we were offered a lift onwards to Aire de St Hilaire Cottes, the last fuel stop before the Calais ferry, so we took it.

it's ok. we were trying to go to Calais, but most people were not taking the A26. Most were going to Lille, or Netherlands, or Germany, etc. good pizza.

we got dropped off here instead of Aire de Wancourt to the North. we were 3 people and were waiting for a while, so we took a lift to Aire de Wancourt anyway.

it's an ok spot for cars to stop. we were not waiting long. our lift was not going very far, but took us to a roundabout on the A1. In retrospect, we should have asked them to drive an extra 10 minutes to a service station, as the roundabout (and nearby toll booth) were not good for us to hitch from (3 people)

Juste avant l'A1, beaucoup de voitures la remontent.
Le spot est safe et clair

Juste avant le péage de l'A16 on cherche à aller sur Lille, toutes les destinations s'en rapprochent

I agree that it's a really weird spot and it was mostly locals but there's space to stand at the side of the turnaround (if a bit windy, also no shelter, so not a spot for bad weather) and cars can stop too. With a sign to Paris we (2ppl) found a ride to Aulnay within half an hour and from there taking the train into Paris proper was pretty easy (and cheap.)

We (2 people) were there on a Sunday, so everything was closed and we only found a ride that didn't go that far. We did find that pretty quick though and I imagine it's a pretty good spot on business days.
As it was for us, it was a small bunnyhop and we were definitely lucky cause there were not many cars, so I'm not rating it super high.

An acceptable starting point, given it's in a big city and pretty easy to reach. There isn't really a place to stop except the red light, but that worked just fine. It was mostly locals but we did end up getting a ride to a nearby reststop. Not ideal but at least we were on the highway. We were two people with a sign to Paris.

Last (or first!) station on the A1. Only 15 km from Lille.

Excellent!
the first/last peage on A1 Lille-Paris. When exiting Lille wait to get directly to here - you will get a ride till next peage in maximum 5-10 minutes. If heading to Lille, wait for direct trip instead of accepting gas station as there are barely no traffic in gas stations

Last gas station before Lille. Very good to go direction of Kortrijk or Ghent, Belgium. Never waited more then 15 minutes!

Straight to Paris, when I started getting more aggressive! Do not wait here before 6am, mostly people going to work. Walked here from Arras train station.

Strait to Paris, but only after 6am. If you're here too early, just people working nearby. Walked here from Arras train station, nothing better to do at 4am!

Edit: even at 1.30 p.m. we found a save ride to Ghent!

I got a lift to Paris in less than 30 min but I was quite lucky because the man who picked me up was an hitchhiker when he was young and he travelled all over the world :)
