the last rest stop before Calais ! lots of traffic going to the ferry, UK cars, etc. We were 3 people, so not many had space for us. eventually, we took a car just to Calais terminal to buy a foot passenger ticket for £30. if it was earlier in the day, and we waited longer, we might have found people going onto the ferry.

Took a while but hitchhiking the channel can be competitive here, when competitive in the morning, you have a better chance here going to France.

Ok, this was not great spot south, if you are heading south I would discourage you from going here, but it was kinda nice spot towards Belgium. Be aware a lot of migrants are lurking around after dark, we had two of them jump on top of our truck and drove them to Belgium (they were not happy about that and banged on our roof). It was definitely one of my crazier stories, but it was kinda fun. Just to be aware of that. (Normally I would sleep around here, but I would never sleep in this place, it was not safe, therefore I went back north to Belgium)

This is a good spot for Brussels. Also lot of British people here are going back to Britain for the weekend. Just ask around, and you can easily get a ride to Calais or to the coast. Just be aware, do not go to Calais late in the evening, there are migrants all around. I learned that the hard way.

One on the ferry, ask everyone for a lift. A lot of people had full cars but with a little luck you will get a ride. When i went to England i managed to get a ride all to way to Bristol. On the way back from England i didnt get a ride, and getting stuck in Calais is HORRIBLE. So ask everyone.

Got here in the evening and stood in the ticket office to ask people if i can go with them, Had no luck, almost everyone buys their tickets in advance. There was like one car coming every 15 minutes. So i slept in some bushes and tried again in the morning but it was the same thing. in the end i had to buy a passanger ticket. I think with lots of determination and time it is possible but pretty hard.

Was trying to get across the ferry. There is not a lot of cars here. Had no luck, asked even the cars with the french licence plates. Then i got a ride to the port, but not across it, because the people got the cheaper ticket where you cant change the amount of passangers.

I waited here for 2 hours trying to find a ride to the UK. There was very little traffic on a Monday night and I was just happy to accept a ride to Calais in the end, shortly before sunset. The driver drove me there out of pitty, I think.
But seriously, stick to the bigger service station in Jabbeke. There's not a ton of traffic either, but at least you spot a UK licence plate every now and then.

I arrived in the evening at 23:00.
Because foot passengers are not allowed on the ferry during the night, I asked drivers in the parking lot if they can take me with them onto the ferry.
The good things is that you pay per car and not per passengers in the car, so I didnt have to pay for the ferry at all.

to go to Dover for free, you can ask people to join them in their car it cost the same for them. You just have to go to the office with them so that your name will be on the ticket.

If you are stuck in Calais on the way to UK, don't use the Eurotunnel. Most of the drivers won't see you. Also the Eurotunnel-staff is unfriendly and sent us away.

i stood here at the traffic circle a couple of times. i waited once about 30 min and once about 45 for going east direction belgium (A16/E40). the first really good petrol stations is jabekke in belgium, but there should be one just 10 min away from this spot where many trucks buy a vignette for BeNeLux.. going south from here should be even easier.

From Calais to Paris, to Lille or to Belgium. Cars coming from the city or Lorries coming from the parking-petrol station near by. My cat and me we found it very busy at 7.00 in the morning on a Friday. It took us around 30 minutes with light rain falling. We were standing at the acces of the motorway, down the roundabout. The night before a tracker droped us here, and we slept at the fields. Its hard for cars to stop without disturbing the trafic, and even harder for trackers.

Calais to Belgium, Paris or England. This place is a parking and petrol station only for truckers. Around 30 trucks sleep here everyday before or after taking the ferry. On June 2008 this place was being reformed, despite of that It was still open and busy. Might be helpful to be droped here when you get a lift to Calais only, or when the driver doesnt want to take you to the docks. I asked around 10 lorries here before I moved to the roundabout, because I was going to Paris, and most of them were heading either to England or Belgium.

I second Danielo's oppinion. A very good place from Calais to England. Also possible to hitch a ride to Poland as there are quite a lot of trucks going that way. I actually managed to get a ride to Frankfurt, but I had to wait 6 hours, because the traffic decreases A LOT during the early morning hours.
