May favourite starting spot to get out of the area to the Netherlands/Belgium/France. So far has worked out for me fairly quickly every single time. This review is super late, but I was there in May in the afternoon and found folks going my direction in half an hour by asking around. It only took half an hour because they wanted to finish their meal (which, totally fair.) I think the finding itself only took about 10 minutes.

Good starting spot to get to Aachen and beyond to Belgium or NL, easy to reach with public transport too. I wasn't even there at a good time (Mid-November on a weekday, very foggy weather) and still found a ride to Aachen pretty quickly by asking around.―thebeekeeper

Decent Rasthof to continue further to the west (Belgium - Aachen - NL), You can even access it from Cologne by taking a train to Konigsdorf and walk from the station to the Services (Augustinus Str and Marienhofer Weg)―Anonymous

Fuel station and restaurant with a reasonable amount of traffic (cars and trucks) stopping. Had to wait a bit for a reasonable ride but got a ride from here South to Stuttgart.―Ilmer

Stayed here overnight in July after arriving at dark. Slept inside restaurant need the kids play area and none of the staff bothered me. Hitched north towards Eindhoven in the morning. Took 1 hour. For anyone heading to Calais/UK I would suggest turning off onto the A4 West to Aachen - much easier to get to Antwerp etc this way.―IsntThatIllegal?

To get there you need to ask people around, it's a bit mess with a roads liding there. It is a big parking+cafe, so you can talk to people or stay on the exit with a sign. We traveled to Paris, so we asked tracks-drtivers and finally found one. Most of the people who stopped drive not far than Aachen. It's a pity.―Anonymous

April 2013: was trying to get to Belgium. Third driver I asked took me to the Raststätte Aachener Land Nord, where a lot of Belgian drivers stop.―Anonymous

Hitchhiked several times to get to The Netherlands from here. Usually rides less than an hour to get a ride (mostly to southern Limburg (Maastricht/Heerlen), but sometimes also towards Venlo).―Maxim1110
