Good spot for waiting, at least in between boats (not sure if there is too much traffic when a boat is unloading for people to stop). Few cars, mostly local traffic but it got us moving at least.

A guy and a girl without a sign on a Saturday afternoon. We were left on the highway, in the middle of a traffic jam by our previous driver. We decided to walk to the next road after the traffic jam and managed to get a car really fast. There is place for cars to stop by the bus stop and we got on the ferry without paying as the fare only applies for the car and not the number of passengers !

A guy and a girl without a sign on a Saturday at noon. We had a lot of luck here : two nice truckers gave us food and coffee, but couldn't take us with them as all trucks were stopped for the weekend. A car that originally went to Hannover then took us all the way to Puttsgarden !
There is place for cars to stop at the end of the restplace, and place to sleep in the wood west of the station.

Quiete a good spot towards Denmark and Sweden, unfortunately I arrived at 5 pm at Buddikate Ost and until I gave up at 8 pm I want able to get a lift towards the ferry in Puttgarden, quiet soon after arriving at the petrol station though I met multiple truck driver who would head towards Sweden the next morning (I thought that I would be able to catch a ride that evening so I didn't paided sufficient attention to this). After sleeping in my tent I got up the next morning and was able to catch a ride after waiting for two hours

I guess it is tricky here. There was almost zero traffic! We stood in front of the gate with sign and everyone ignored us until a campervan came and took us. It were 2 girls who knew they can take extra people for free.

Empty place but on that day many people were heading to a music festival and on of the workers from the festival took us to the ferry terminal

Be sure to be ready for when the ferry arrives: a big rush of cars comes by, but then nothing for the coming half hour until the next ferry arrives. Good place to stop a car;

Because it seemed too difficult to get a ride at the habour, we went here. In generell roundabouts are very effectiv, but not so here!

The Aral gasstation just before the bridge to Fehmarn. I think it's a good one. Many people go to Fehmarn for holidays or shopping and not to the ferry. If you got a ride from someone like that, ask to get off at the aral gasstation. There hh for a ride to the ferry. Not so much traffic at this gasstation, but for these few kilometres to the ferry, people dare to take a hher.

Just do it! Wait at the far end where cars come into the waiting area.

When you got the opportunity take a ride to the drive-up in Burg. There I had much more luck than at this busy spot.

You can also ask for rides on the ferry!

I got a ride to Hannover from a nice truck driver in 15 minutes NOT in the ferry rush.

every half an hour (when the ferry arrives) there is a rush of cars. then you can chill again.

Free ferry: The ferry charges by car not by passengers (max. 5 persons) so that your lift won't have to pay extra for you!
