Perfect spot, so many people, got a lift past frankfurt! Ask around at the entry!

Lots of traffic that is driving slow because of the lights, also a space for cars to stop.

We waited for 60 minutes and maybe 15 cars passed during that time. Would not recommend when you want to go east to Mannheim.

A guy and a girl without a sign on a Friday at noon. There is a bus stop for cars to stop, not ideal as everybody goes a bit fast, but probably the best spot to get out east of the city as there are a lot of people passing by.

A guy and a girl without a sign on a Friday at noon. We didn't have to wait for long before a girl took us to Manheim. It wasn't our destination, but we didn't feel like refusing as the spot is not ideal to stop.

A guy and a girl on a Thursday afternoon without a sign. After getting there by bus & train and walking about 25min, we stood at the first exit, where you get all the cars going both to the highway or to the petrol station. A lot of cars passed by, but we shortly got a ride to Heidelberg. Seems to be a good spot to go north.

stepped out of the car, asked the first people we saw and got a ride to the A8

we were there in the morning, asking people at the gas station and there wasn’t a lot of traffic, but a lot of friendly people. it was a bit tricky to get a ride to the A5 because a lot of cars went north or into the city.

Two guys on a hot summer's Tuesday morning. 4 or 5 cars stopped for us, before we found one going south on the A5. Not that great a spot, but perhaps still the best available.

It was an awful place for me. Waited around 4 hours for someone to give me a ride (tried both sides, talking to people and just catching by the exit). the place is very run down, there were a lot of people there the whole duration of my stay - however they weren't helpful. I don't know if its just my luck but i definitely wont try to catch from here again

Asking around should work, in my case I was pretty unlucky with the weather and full cars. Eventually decided to sign at the on-ramp and was got a ride to Heidelberg within five minutes.

Not busy but pretty lucky that a German business man gave us a lift.

It's just after an intersection with LOTS of traffic funneling in the north direction. You can talk to the drivers at the station, or you can stand at the entrance with a sign/thumb. I got my ride by asking a driver directly, and I know he would otherwise not have taken me because he drove right past me into the gas station. He was driving to Grünstadt, but he actually took a detour to drop me directly at my destination, Heidelberg!

I initially stood by another traffic light farther north with a sign, and then I walked to this traffic light because it stays red for much longer, giving you time to walk around and actually get in a car without disturbing traffic.
I had a sign saying "Stuttgart" and eventually a woman waved at me from the passenger's seat. They took me straight to Stuttgart-Messe.

This is a nice traffic light on an intersection - gives you plenty of time, probably around 1 minute or more. You can actually walk through the cars and people will often open their windows to ask where you're going.
I wanted to go south to Stuttgart and I thought this would get me to the A5. I was wrong. Most people coming through here are going to Mannheim. It's a good spot if you're going in that direction, otherwise you should find another one.
To go south like me, try the Speyerer Strasse in Kirchheim.
