Looks like a good spot to get out of the city. The highway entrances have no space for cars to stop, but here there is space next to the road. Traffic is going slow because of traffic lights. Lots of local cars. Also Köln, Düsseldorf and Neuss license plates. Somebody stopped for direction Dortmund, but not my direction. Tried with sign 'Neuss'. Took a break at the cafe around the corner for a coffee and toilet. And then with sign 'D' (Düsseldorf). Nice guy picked me up and drove to Neuss.

Lots of holiday traffic in october. But got a lift to Wuppertal very quick by asking around the restaurant.
Also waited more than an hour before here for a further lift in direction Osnabrück.

I stood there for almost an hour with a sign saying Köln and Essen on Monday at 11. many cars passed by but the vibe was not great. Frankfurt is a banker city and the people gave me weird looks. However one van stopped after 20 minutes, they were going to Hannover though. After a while a guy driving to Bochum (city right next to Essen) took me along and we had a great ride :)

With sign "A3 süd". Only got some offers to Düsseldorf. Moved to the onramp after 69mins, but had the same result there. If you get stuck here your best option is public transport to the next Raststätte.

Hünxe. Sometimes you get a ride to Ohligers Heide in 30 minutes, sometimes you wait 3 hours before accepting a ride into the HH'ers hell that is Ruhrpot. Today was the latter. Don't be like me. It's (at least) Ohligers Heide or nothing.

Very busy gas station. Asked around and then an Indian family took me straight to the Netherlands. They were driving to Almere, but they dropped me off in Wageningen in front of my dorm.

Not too many cars, but lucky to get a ride to the next gas station as that guy was heading to Essen.

I was here on a Sunday and had to wait for 2 hours. Probably faster on a weekday.

To get there from Wuppertal, take the bus no. 618 or 624 to Lahmburger Str.
Then follow \"Gennebrecker Str.\" to north (5 minutes walking).

This gasstation is not that large and that busy, but essential if you want to get any further to the Netherlands. There are also rides to the North of Germany

to the south, A3. not best place for cars to stop but it is a very busy ramp and so somebody will stop, place yourself exactly where the marker is

Don't. Place yourself where this marker is! ;-) (watch out for cars coming around the corner using parts of the emergency lane, though)

On that spot you can also change the side of the highway if you need so. (Throught the graveyard and under the highway). This is very useful in this part of Germany where the highway density is so high.

Tried to hitchhike north (Hamburg) two times and had to wait more than one hour. If you want change to A1 maybe you can manage to get to the first parking place on A1 (10km from this spot).
