Nice spot to get out of Duisburg towards the Netherlands, but I must say it was probably more about luck than a good spot. There's no shadow to stand in during summer btw, I got quite a sizzle on my neck after that half hour. The driver was really nice though, drove me all the way past Venlo, when he didn't even plan to cross into the Netherlands at all, and even bought me a coke and gave me some cardboard for a new sign

Very nice spot. Got there on a sunday morning at 7:30, it looked extremely empty, but after 30mins at the on-ramp with a "HANNOVER WEST" sign a nice man stopped trying to take me to Helmstedt, but right as I was putting my stuff into his backseat, another car stopped after seeing my sign, saying they'll take me to Duisburg. Obviously I took that offer. Very nice people, even the ones that didn't take me. Very nice experience for my very first time hitchhiking

Waited for a very long time in the hot hot hot sun. I can see how it can work on other days, but for us there’s was only Dutch people with very full cars going anywhere but where we were going. Ended up having to give up and get a ride to the nearest train station.

Good spot! I was asking around for an hour and in the end met a couple from the Netherlands while filling up my water. The took me all the way where I needed to go. I spent 6 hours travelling with them. Really perfect.
I asked at the parking lot at the end, not at the gas station.

Very good spot to get out of Oberhausen onto A3 in the direction of Arnhem. There's a traffic light you can stand next to with a sign. Mine was super improvised and it still worked in like 5 minutes. Not super far but to Hünxe which I knew to be a good spot to continue. Was pretty late, so I might have been lucky with Feierabend traffic

Hünxe. Sometimes you get a ride to Ohligers Heide in 30 minutes, sometimes you wait 3 hours before accepting a ride into the HH'ers hell that is Ruhrpot. Today was the latter. Don't be like me. It's (at least) Ohligers Heide or nothing.

On a Saturday, there was very low traffic. But I was lucky and found a driver who got me to Goch (Service station Kalbecker Forst) very quickly.

Great spot if you're hitchhiking from Cologne to the Netherlands. You can get here from Nievenheim train station and bus WE2. After that it's just a 15 minute walk to the station.
If you look on Google satellite, you will spot a small trail after the bridge over the highway. It is traversable but I wouldn't recommend it as it leads through hunting grounds that are private property. Better to take the long way around. Either way, the service station is accessible on foot through a whole in the fence or on the small road.

Waited for 5 minutes, then found a friendly man and his girlfriend who took me one service station further to Geismühle. There was low traffic on Saturday, but I got lucky and found somebody quickly.

Malgraŭ la konstanta pluvo, tre malmulte da trafiko, kaj preskaŭ noktiĝis, ĝi tamen funkciis.

Take a train to Oberhausen-Sterkrade and then the bus #979 to "Heinrich-Heine-Str." in Bottrop. From there you'll see the highway, just walk towards it. Good spot to hitch away fast towards Hamburg, Münster,Hannover, Berlin

Kleiner Rastplatz: Am Entenfang
Toiletten, Polizei, Telefonzelle

It´s quit a good area to get away...sundern and all points of the sauerland. the people are not as ,,narrow-minded´´ as you probably appraise...
