A nice man agreed to take us over the border, he was headed for France. We were trying to go to Lucerne and wanted to get off earlier but we completely Missed our exit because the map didn't update... But he agrees to drop us off at another place that had an actual gasstation and people going east! Would recommend going a bit further rather than trying a place without a gasstation

Well, this is a strange one. Arrived at midnight - camped behind the little (very little!) woodland towards the entrance to the left and put in earplugs (as the traffic is really loud). There was maybe two cars around at that time and I was beat.
In the morning it felt a little bleak - traffic was so so but it felt like mostly locals. Still, I knew I would eventually find someone for Strasbourg. I began to heat water for a coffee and along cones a Luxembourgish car. He was going to Nancy, I believe, but decided to deviate to Stras as it was faster. Think he just wanted to take me. He hadn't seen a hitcher in a long time. Awfully sweet guy. Shared his veg wrap with me.

You have toilets here& tap water. Not a place I'd like to be in winter, but frankly the road sucks from Luxembourg to Metz and there's little other options. I had stood in Luxembourg for two hours under heavy rain and storm with a sign for Stras to no avail. But, arrive I did...finally :-)

If you stand at the exit of the XXXLutz there are constantly new people you can ask but offen times they will drive to another furniture store or ins the city.

Lot of cars heading towards Freiburg. There is a place to stop and the cars are slowed by the lights. Good for getting out onto the A5

A lot of people are going north on the A5 and a lof of full cars with families but its a nice spot. I got a ride directly into Strasburg with a lovely couple.

the spot is a bit complicated, it’s not clear when the driver just wants to enter the gas station or to pick you up.. and the waiting time was long, maybe it’s just the case in Germany

Stand on Avenue Des Voges on the roundabout side of the cross walk, facing ADV (not the roundabout). Nowhere for cars to stop in the roundabout, plenty of traffic from ADV.

Not a very good spot, but without any battery of my phone, I just stood desperetaly there with a sign indicating "Selestat". After 15 minutes a driver took me even in the Vosges mountains.

always tricky to hitchhike on a highway, but this spot turned out to be super useful and successful, coming from Strasbourg and wanting to go south to Switzerland. cars have room to stop (only) on the left hand side, and you can get a ride to any gas station or parking/rest place further on the highway.
i got there by being droped on the previous highway exit, and walking along the fields, coming up to the highway right at the beginning of the exit lane.

Best spot for going south, but it's very hard to reach by foot. Ask the locals to drop you off at "Offenburger Ei".
