The first person I asked was going to Erfurt and took me all the way to Bad Hersfeld. It was evening so there wasn't much traffic, maybe that's also why the traffic was more long distance. I think the deserted vibe of the gas station made people take pity on me which greatly helped me haha.

Yeah exactly what the other comment said. I walked 30mins to this spot from the highway and it was worth it. The next gas station was small but it is the last one in a long time so many people going towards Giessen stop there apparently.

I got dropped off here by accident, made some mistake with my gps. I wanted to go in the direction of Giessen, which is unlikely from that stop. But even cars going on the A3 towards Cologne didn't stop for me. There wasn't a lot of traffic in the early evening, it was mainly just truckers getting ready for the night and staring at me.

Good stuff. Got picked up by two people who fed me the absolute best Syrian food. 10/10 would recommend.

Enough traffic so you can talk to people and not just wait around. Most traffic is local though. Best to ask for the next town over and not too far in my experience

Decent spot if you just want to get on the main road. There's a gas station 10 minutes down the road where local drivers can drop you off. There is enough room to stand, drivers can stop fine but the sidebank isn't thst big.

Put frankfurt on our signs and got a ride from the 5th person we asked. Lot of people and a good place to go south. You can go through the woods and over the fence but it's less of a hassle to just start at the onramp a couple of km back.

great chance in all directions! On a fuelstation at Highway A3 from south- to noth- germany (munich to cologne). I used it twice (workdays at 6.oo AM and 9.oo PM) and wait under 5 min.

The gas station going south towards Frankfurt. It has a motel as well, so there are always a good amount of people passing by. We stood by the entry to the highway, waited about 20-30 minutes and got a direct ride to the airport.

Great place to head north on the A3. never waited more than 20 minutes.

we were lucky and at daytime a lot of people stopped there... there was traffic jam so they could leave the rest stop as quick as usually and we could get a ride after 5 minutes trying.

according to my experience there is quite little traffic on this motorway saturday evening. was very lucky to get a ride to Karlsruhe in 10 min, though there were ca. 10-12 cars resting at the same time, not a lot...

I got here around midnight on Saturday so I had to wait for a long time. A taekwondo team going to Nuremberg agreed to take me.

Living in Mainz I sometimes take the train to Bad Camberg (free with Student pass) and then walk up the hill to this rest stop. There's no proper sidewalk so you're kinda on the road a bit, but it's not too far of a walk.

I wanted to go Nuremberg from this spot which is far south-east from here in Bavaria.
But I didn t find anyone willing to take me in that direction for more than two hours. After which I found a non-native who agreed to bring me to Passau which is even farther.
Generally people were unreceptive to taking me with them.
