It's much easier to get on the A72 towards Chemnitz/Dresden than towards Hof/Nürnberg. During one hour of waiting there were only 6 cars with Bavarian license plates.To get there from Zwickau take a train to Voigtsgrün (€3,30 )

Decent place for getting a ride towards Plauen, Hof, not too many longer distance cars, but still a lot going towards south, wait time of 30-40 minutes, but it was really early in the morning, no trucks here (just about 2), you can get here from the village of Neuwürschnitz, walk across the football field and up you go, there's unlocked gate (on top of the hill)―Anonymous

It might me still a good spot but during the week there is not much traffic which is going far away. I gave up after 2h finding a lift towards Dresden (maybe better from Zwickau at the A4?), just saw a few heading to Hof/Bavaria or Leipzig―FaMage
