Typical highway entrance. From positives highway entrance sign is quite close to highway so you have a lot of space to stand legally and police want have any problem with you standing there (or if you will be unlucky they at least won't give you a fine)

Not the best spot for cars for stopping but they still do. After 25 minutes of waiting and rejecting one offer in different direction than mine driver approached me and told me that he didn't had place to stop at the roundabout so he stopped at the parking nearby and told me he is going towards Ulm. I accepted ride as it was on my way but later I found out that he was actually going to Saxony but it was pure luck. Nether the less good spot for Ulm and Munich even if it doesn't look like that

A big station, fuel, food, toilets and parking. Good if you want to go south, people aren’t very keen on taking you, you have to go around and ask, just holding a sign isn’t enough.

Should be able to find cars going directly to Dresden. My final ride on a 2 month trip. Got a ride by a couple.

Got a ride by a couple. The guy did not want to take me but the girl convinced him - know whom to talk to to increase your chances ;)

It's easy to go on the A4 from here. You can reach this point by walking very easy. Driver can stop it is not the best place to stop, but it's also not to dangerus.

Bad hitchhiking spot near Meerane, although if you find yourself stuck in the area it seems to be the best place to hitchhike from. However you really should consider taking a train to Zwickau or Chemnitz, and trying from one of those places instead. As you can see on the satellite image there is very little traffic on this road, but like anywhere you will get rides if you look desperate enough. I got a car to stop by doing an 'emergency' signal on the side of the road and holding out a sign with just a black arrow on it. To get here, walk from Meerane. Terrible hitchhiking spot at Meerane. Meerane is way too quiet, and there is no long distance traffic here whatsoever. If you get stuck here, your best bet is to take a train to Zwickau or Chemnitz, or try your luck on the A4/B93 junction. As I was on the way to Poland and my driver did a 50km detour to here (all the way from the A9) because he was sure that dropping me off at Meerane's McDonalds was a good idea. He shouldn't have bothered. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Meerane

Bus-stop (10min waiting)
good point to start traveling (e.g. Berlin): A72, all directions

in either direction of A72(Dresden/Hof). Got to talk to people.

nah... waited 45mins for a lift to A4 west, even though I had a sign. Not a good place for cars to stop, except when traffic light is red ^^

It's much easier to get on the A72 towards Chemnitz/Dresden than towards Hof/Nürnberg. During one hour of waiting there were only 6 cars with Bavarian license plates.

To get there from Zwickau take a train to Voigtsgrün (€3,30 )

I have been here two times and both times this petrol station revealed not a good place where to switch drivers - fuel supplied by Total, it's a bit more expensive than other companies and this explains a bit why both times I have seen so few drivers in this spot. I recommend to avoid it if it's possible.
