Asked a albanian truck driver if he could take me to turkey. First he refused, but after his break he came back and offered to drop me off in front of the border near Alexandroupoli. Didnt even need to jump the fence like another reviewer mentioned, theres a big hole nowadays.

Lots of room to stop in the emergency lane, but 2 different police cars pulled over and told me off for standing on the highway, but eventually I got taken all the way to Thessaloniki. Just hope no police come past.

My plan was to ask the Turkish truck drivers and if not successful move to the toll station. Asked the first Turkish truck driver and he dropped me at the border ! Tesekurler Fethi! He also share his meal with me.

To go back from Mount Athos to Thessaloniki, just make some friends during your pilgrimage/trip. A lot of people come from there and will go back by car. Thanks George and Theodoris!

I confused this spot with the one that is further down the road, nobody stopped

In my opinion it's better spot then station cuz hare is more traffic, cars are slow after toll station and there is place to stop. Better to use sign.
After an 1h Turkish truck driver took me to Turkish border.

It is a spot in the Highway, has good visibility and some time to Break. Not ideal thoough. We used a sign saying "Saloniki". We got picked up by a Truck after about 15min on the highway. He dropped us of somewhere in the suburbs.

The spot is great (great visibility and place to stop), but I ended up waiting for quite some time to find a ride to Thessaloniki. When asking around, I even talked with a man my age who said he was going to Thessaloniki, but "refused to take strangers into [his] car because of all the problems with imigrants". Funnily enough, I was picked up by an Albanian who emigrated to Greece a few minutes later.

Shell Gas Station just before the Highway.
Stayed there four hours without getting a ride. Half of the cars isn't getting to the highway. It's hard for cars which going to highway to see and stop for you.
Better don't try to Hitch-Hike there

There is a truck stop here, about 15 km east of Lagynas. Maybe the best option to go towards Istanbul with Turkish truck drivers. (untested)

The bus number is 83 from center or Lagkada Street. Ask for connecting bus to analipsi. From center to toll station u need maybe an hour, but its a really good spot for the direction turkey.

Take bus to lagkadas, then connecting bus to analipsi. Walk 20 mins until you just pass toll station. The fence dips down the hill so no one will see you Climb it. Got a Turkish trucker in 20 mins
