It’s not great, but it’s Italy. And with it being Italy, it’s actually pretty good!
I got there in the afternoon in late January, with a sign reading “Verona”.
I barely got any looks from passing cars, in all the time I was then I think it was two waves at most. But after 45 minutes, Michaela and her young son offered me a ride to Desenzano. As we were driving, her son who spoke English would translate between us, to save me the horror of my broken Italian. She decided that she absolutely refused to drop me at a service station to continue hitching, not because it was dangerous in her eyes, but because she thought it would take too long!
In her eyes, she wanted to take me all the way to Verona, so the best she could do was invite me to her home for lunch, and buy me a train ticked to Verona!
After countless refusals on my behalf, I finally gave in to the hospitality, and had the loveliest afternoon.

We got very lucky, getting picked up by an off duty police officer. Don’t recommend this place going south, unless you need to. North is properly pretty good

After I stayed 150min next to the toll station A4 I went to this (quiet big) roundabout to get northwards. At First I only had a sign with "Brennero A22" on it, but after some time where no one stopped I changed it to "Affi", because it was way more near than Brennero. While I was going to the Aldi buying food and asking around, two cars crashed right where I stood 30min before. As the police drove away an the street has been cleaned, I tried it there a second time. A Italian guy stopped and took me to Trento instead of Affi. This spot is the best for going northwards, but maybe not the safest.

Waited here for 2,5 hours to get a ride in direction to Trento ... but probably it was because already in the evening !!(7pm-9:30pm)
most of the people go to the direction of Venezia !!

Good for getting a medium-distance ride east or west, before the drivers enter the autostrada. Carabinieri were everywhere, but for once they didn't mind.

Hitch on both sides of the road, for a chance to get a medium-distance ride on the autostrada. This spot is good, although carabinieri are using it as a checkpoint.

We waited long time for a ride direction south. Everybody was going to Venice. Eventually we got a ride north, and at the next gast station we stopped and went on the other side through "secret passage". Quite adventourous

buen sitio. unos 15 camiones. me tomaron en dirección eslovenia. duermo en el camion. buon posto, una 15 di Tir, mi prendono fino slovenia, duormo nel camion. good place, 15 lorries, one took me slovenia, i slept in the lorrie.
