Lot of traffic going Genova direction. Young couple stoped to take us (2) directly to Genova city centre. We just had a sign Genova.―TwoThumbsTravel

Not easy to go to this place, but when you go through the field it is a quite fine spot to go to Milan from nearby villages. We had a sign Milano. A guy took us to a metro station, by metro we went to the southern part of Milano to Romolo station and continued to Genova from there.―TwoThumbsTravel

brilliant. first car i asked was going to bolzano, second took me to milan (but both were taking a longer dinner break). good traffic, showers, dunno how easy to access on foot if not coming from the highway.―Arson

Every local will stop to take you just few citys\villages but you can just dont pay the ticket for the train to Milan, they dont check the Tickets often. If your a tourist just talk in your local language and they will kick you out at the next Station and you can take the next train (if your a tourist it prettymuch works in everey regional train in Italy)―zare

We waited an hour and a half, at first out of view of the Tamoil gas station employees, but then it turned out they were cool with us asking for rides from there. multiple people offered to pick us up, but mostly not going far (to San Giuliano Milanese) or the wrong way (Bergamo).―road2riot2k25

We were little lucky that one truck took us straight to Milano. This is a good spot even for trucks to stop.―VitekOliver

This is the best way to get a ride out of Milan on to the highway. Just make a carton with 'Autostrade' and you are able to get a ride on to the next gas station. It is difficult for cars to stop, because of the high speed allowed and many lanes. But if the traffic signal is red you have some chance.
You can get on to the platform between the road and the special lane for better visibility.

Direction Venezia - BresciaDon't loose your time to go there from the center of Milano. It's dangerous, drivers go fast, and you will wait hours.

if you want to go south get a sign with A1 or "Autostrade del sole" on it―Anonymous

Hitchhiking in Italy can be a pain, but Milano is perhaps the worst. There are toll booths here where every single car heading southwest must slow to a crawl or stop entirely. I know it's a hike, but sack up because Italians are not sympathetic to hitching. Take the metro to the most southern stop and then follow roads until there are no more roads. Walk through fields if you have to. Stand in the small safe area between two toll lanes with a sign (for Genova or where ever)and 100% of traffic will not only see you, but already be slowing down. I got to the toll from the note I've added just north of here. Once at the tolls I caught a ride in about 10 minutes.―Anonymous
