Ĝi estis nia unua veturo kun virino en Maroko, tre interesa, kaj ankaŭ nia lasta veturo en Maroko, eĉ pli interesa. De tiam, Chay ne plu havis tiom da pacienco ĉar lia amatino diris, ke li devas alveni al Eŭropo antaŭ la sekva tago, do li pagis por la sekvaj taksioj, kiuj estis tre malmultekostaj.―Jurobola

SPAIN / MOROCCO FRONTIERHARD CROSSING DUE TO THE CROWD
DIRECTION TETOUAN / ALGECIRAS
Sign : Ask direcly to drivers, a lot are dissatisfied about the frontier system and because there is too much people screaming, crying, waiting hours for visas... It's a very hard point to hitchhike.
Position : For the south, maybe walk a little after the taxi parking and put your sign... it will be more quiet

Port Tanger MedFerries to Spain (Algeciras) several times a day. When you get to the terminal, ask for a boarding card from one of the booths and fill it. Then waltz to the X-ray and someone probably asks for your ticket. Explain that you are a hitchhiker and that the trucks are allowed to have one passenger apart from the driver. Be prepared for lengthy conversation though. Smile.
Once you are done with the formalities a minibus will take you to down to the port. Moroccan drivers are your best choice. Just convince them that you don\\'t have drugs with you (Arabic sign \\"I have no drugs\\" makes them smile). Explain that all they have to do is to take you into the ferry and in Spain you will walk out of the ferry by yourself.
It might take a while but eventually you will get a ride to the ferry. Then you just go and have a nice meal with the driver.
Just before reaching Algeciras you should try to hitch a ride out of the port (otherwise be prepared for a long walk).

FERRY LIFT: alright, this is the place where you wanna go if you're looking for a free lift on the ferry. Coming from Tangier, if you get dropped at the passenger terminal roundabout, don't go left, cause that's the passenger terminal and you don't need to do anything there, don't go right where you see the truck sign cause that's just a parking lot I guess, GO STRAIGHT, where it seems like you shouldn't go, but that's where you want to go, walk a couple of kms, you'll get to the place where trucks are scanned before boarding (on the right hand side). There you'll find all the trucks waiting, start asking all the drivers for a lift to Algeciras, remind them they are allowed to take one more passenger on the truck for free, the port staff is friendly, won't give you any trouble. It took us just 15 minutes to find a ride for me and my girlfriend, it was a three drivers turkish company, they were happy to take us with them.
Alright, second step, getting your passport stamped, that's the hard part, before entering the scanning area, you need to pass through this toil boot-looking gates, where you'll need to go to the customs office on the left and get your passport stamped. there may be different officers, the one that was on shift got us into tight jams, he didn't want to stamp our passports, we told him we were trying to hitch hike a ride because we didn't have any money, and that what we were doing was totally legal, he said he didn't have the permission to do it, and told us to go to the main police office at the passenger terminal (that's a long walk), if it happened to you, DEMAND him to call his chief and INSIST ON IT, otherwise you'll have to go all the way back to the terminal. After half an hour we finally got our passports stamped and green light to go.
Third step, long wait for the truck to be scanned, and for the drivers to get all their papers, took us HOURS. Finally we could leave and go to the embarkation place, but be aware that tourists cars have the priority on boarding, so trucks will have to wait till there's room left on one of the ferries.
At the end of the day, it took us just 15 minutes to find a ride but 7 hours before touching spanish land (the ferry is just one hour).
NB: trucks pay several hundreds of euros for the ferry (12 hundred my truck), so hitchhikers being passengers usually get one free meal on board.

So... It's 2025 and we tried to hitchhike to Algeciras. This is the place where you usually get a ferry ticket. First we tried to enter the "export access" for trucks which is very close by but even a guy who works there told us that the driver needs the name of the passenger on his ticket so we didn't try more. Later we heard around 3 a few busses would arrive and maybe those we could have asked but in the end we just decided to not wait 3h and bought a ticket. I would have loved to try it somehow but my wife was lazy :D. Good luck for anyone who will try nowadays. I would love to know if someone will manage it!―Anonymous
