Arrived after sunset, the second guy I asked drove me straight to Aachen

This place is counterintuitive, or I just got lucky, but I was exhausted and in a not-so-great mood, so I desperately wanted to get out of Germany. So I got a sign saying BE, and it took just a couple of minutes to get a ride to the small town of Kelmis in Belgium.

I made a mistake and trusted my driver that this would be a good place. It was not. I tried standard hitchhiking, but soon realized that there is too heavy traffic for that here. So I started asking at the gas station, and that worked after some time.

Right now the roundabout is closed due to construction. If youre heading to Köln i reccomend taking the 52 bus from the city centre to the gas station on autobahn 4. Its like 10 minutes.

Not a lot of people going to Köln, but you can get to Aachen pretty quickly and go from there. There is space to stop but not that many cars going through.

I agree with another comment, doesn't feel like an ideal place to wait - not to much space for cars to pull over

A fairly bad spot for hitch hiking, but maybe the best spot in this tangled mess of highways around Düsseldorf.

There is no place where you can stand and catch most of the traffic from the car garages, or the people going to the car garages, or people dropping off for departures. Car traffic for arrivals, departures, taxis, and valet service are all mixed together. Exhausting, but doable. Lots of local traffic but also lots of traffic for long distances in all directions.

Hold out for a good ride, if you get dropped off on the wrong side-highway there will be no traffic going further in the direction you want.

Take a few minutes to look for a better spot and report back. One of the remote parking garages might be good.

Not a legal spot to hitchhike according to the traffic cop who picked me up after drivers apparently called the police on me. Drivers constantly beeping and yelling at me, one guy even through a beer can at me.
Luckily the cop drove me to a nearby truck stop just to get me off the highway. I would try a different spot heading south next time
