On-rampHad to jaywalk through the crossroads to get to the spot but there is space to stop and many people go there during rush hours

Did not get a ride before the bus came after 20 minutes. It looks like a good spot, but nobody stopped.―johan92

Waited 15 minutes. We're about to turn around to go further south and walk to julianaplein. Then we heard 2 cars, took one more try. One stopped, they saw my blue jacket together with the sign and thumbs and took us al the way to Zwolle. they had to go to Amersfoort. Arguably the best spot for leaving Groningen. Have one stand at left Emmasingel side (west) to talk to the drivers and one with the signs to Stationsweg (east) as a tip (worked last time)―Anonymous

This is an average spot in the direction of Germany, or Winschoten. It is quite difficult to stop for drivers, but still they do it often within half an hour.―Anonymous

Direction Amsterdam: after waiting for over 2 hours with no luck, we decided to move to the entrance of the highway and we got a lift in 10 minutes. Might work better for other directions, in those 2 hours 2 cars stopped going to nearby villages―Phidias81

I disagree with the people saying not to use a sign; there are countless directions the cars are heading towards (Drachten/Assen/Hoogezand/Emmen/etc.) and people are more likely to stop if they know where you're heading. My waiting times with a sign (towards Assen) are about 50% shorter than without one.―Anonymous

Waited about 15 minutes for a lift to Drachten - without a sign. But maybe if you hold a sign to indicate direction Germany or Amsterdam, it might be even faster.―Tommy90
