Good spot going east to wards bulls. Big truckstop with a ton of space to pull over, good visibility and speed.―Anonymous

Big area to pull over, good visibility, slow traffic. This is a good spot for lifts to taupo and is the biggest busiest road available, yet perfectly hitchable.―Anonymous

Slow traffic, room to pull over. Heading south on Route 1, we waited about 15 minutes for a lift to Bulls.―luckyluke

A roundabout, where cars go quite slow. However, the shoulder is a bit narrow. On a good note traffic to Napier turns east earlier.―Bursztyn

Lots of traffic, plenty of space to pull over. Found a lift only to Sanson junction, heading south on Route 1. I imagine with a "Wellington" sign you could find a direct lift fairly quickly.―luckyluke

Got a lift from a local railway worker. He travels from Welly to Palm every day, so there's a chance he'll pick you up in the afternoon. Other than that, this is a pretty rough place for cars to stop. there is a place to stop as they accelerate just before the ramp onto a motorway.―Carlitos

Enough space for someone to pull over. After the turning for Whakapapa Village so you miss anyone not going south, but catch anyone coming from there. It's before the 100kph sign so they're not necessarily going fast either. People pulling into the fuel station also have a chance to see you―NatPark2
