The second car we asked agreed to take me and my girlfriend to Oslo. Very good spot, lot of traffic.

Great spot to head towards Oslo! There's not much space for drivers to pull over, but it's wide enough for them to pull to the side and stop. It's also beneficial that there is a roundabout and drivers go slower and can take their time to think about picking you up when they see you.

One male 40+, with a sign "Oslo", one big and one small backpacks, sunny and warm day. Going to Oslo.
A bus stop, good visibility and enough space even for a lorry to stop. Much closer there is a petrol station, but it's on a curve with almost no space to stop, so I think this place is better and worth the extra 20 minutes walk.
I was very luck this time. I waited only 10 minutes and I got a ride straight to the Oslo centre.

Maybe not the best spot, but drivers certainly have a lot of visibility and space to stop, even if they’re probably Norwegian and driving a bit too fast to notice - bring a big sign.

A guy and a girl on a Wednesday afternoon without a sign. There's a bus stop for cars to stop, but cars go a little fast. We were taken to the gas station of Vik.

A guy and a girl on a Wednesday at noon with a small arrow sign. It's hard to get to this spot, you have to get to the other side of the road, in the gas station by bus and foot before crossing to the other side.
It looks like a bad spot from afar, but is in fact very nice, with lot of place to stop and cars going slowly before the roundabout.

A Turkish taxi driver took me to the Shell where the road turns towards E6.

A guy and a girl with a small sign on a Sunday at noon. This spot is quite good. Two people stopped in 20min, and the third one took us South of Oslo and offered us lunch !

A Norwegian truck stopped going to Rjukan!

Gas station and restaurants, lots of people, easy to get rides anywhere South. Mosser and his three children Jacob, Maria and David, picked me up on a ride to Horten, and conversed about Norwegian social structures.

Supermarket parking. Good place to thumb bars going south or going in or out the parking lot. Possible to ask around too.

No place to stop. Got lucky. The bus stop is better, use a sign. I got a ride very fast by a hippie pentecostal father and his little son going to Kongsberg

Small, chill, rest place with a small restaurant. Not a lot of traffic, but asking people will get you places, easy to get to Drammen or Oslo. An old guy alone in his camper, going all the way north, picked me up.

Again, there's no good spot in this way out. Here they can stop on an exiting street, but cars go fast and close to each other, dangerous situation. We did end up getting two rides for 2+1 people one after the other. Still better go to a different place.

Bus stop, enough place to stop. Very good to go towards Oslo. Got a ride for four (4) people within 5 mins.

Not a good spot to go south. No place to stop. In general all this exit (we walked to different places along the road) is infamous. Better go to a gas station directly instead of trying.

Not a bad place for cars to stop, they have space on the bus stop. But it took us quite a while. Trying signs, no signs, other direction... With no luck. Finally a great soul picked us up and drove us an hour out of his way.

Bus stop with good place to stop. Easy to get rides to Oslo center or further south the E18 (we had a sign for Asker)

The bus stop has plenty of space to pull over. You might consider using a sign. There’s a lot of traffic. I only got a very short ride, just enough to get out of Oslo.
