Started very early with no cars, but a lot of cars coming out of Lisbon to the westernmost point of europe during the day and driving back in the evening―DickieHoppenstedt

If you want to head South of Lisbon you can start here. You will depend on people stopping for you only. As far as that goes it's a great place!―Anonymous

Even if cars pass by and they see you they'll probably not stop.―Anonymous

I can't say that it is a great place anymore since they installed a camera on the parking plot. From my own experience, they spotted me and in 10minutes, a car went specially to bid me to go away. Motive : no hitch-hiking on the highway and the parking plot is part of the highway.―Anonymous

It's a very good place to get a ride to the south side of the river, I like to write "outra margem" on a sign, you can also use "área de serviço Barreiro". You can easily be dropped at Barreiro service station on the highway just a few kms after the bridge, and from there find a ride to the next one "Palmela", and then you're on your way to Algarve, or Spain, or wherever south. Enjoy the view from the bridge and shout "Até já, Lisboa!"―Ratodoporao

I was with a friend, so maybe that's why it took longer for us, but we had to wait long. First we were standing here with a sign "España" for more than an hour and didn't get any rides. Than we changed the sign for "15 km south" so after a while someone took us till the first service station, where it worked better.―Besnik19

Used this spot to get out of Lisbon for scenery/coastal road hh. A bit of a hike though from train station (1.5e to Sintra from Lisbon).―Anonymous

used this spot twice and got a ride to the gas station south within 20 minutes both times. its not illegal so the police won't make problems, unlike the parking lot nearby.―Anonymous

The main problem of this spot seems to me to be that the kind of people driving by are doing short distance rides and don't seem to want to stop for someone they don't know. But there are also nice and interesting persons willing to stop and, luckily, they'll get you directly to Lisbon! So it really depends on your luck. The road has many crosspoints, so be sure you're in the correct one, whether you want to go to Lisbon or the Cascais part.―Anonymous

Good spot to get ride to Lisbon or Almada. Cars are going slow from the roundabout and there is place for cars to safely stop.―heeeyhitchhiker

I got dropped of here because the driver wasn't going to the gas station. I stood I the small pavement piece between the streets. I held up a sign with "próxima estação da serviço" - next gas station and got a ride eventually but I wouldn't recommend this spot. the cars are kind of driving too fast to have time to read the sign and there isn't so much time for them to stop too.―Anonymous

My asshole got absolutely obliterated by the fence but i survived. Got a ride after about an hour to exactly where i needed to go!―Sebby

I took the advice above and held up a sign with "outra margem" and got a ride over the bridge quickly.however, make sure the driver can actually drop you off at the next gas station (seixal) and isn't just going to a small city after the bridge, because it will be hard to find a ride there(happened to me)
