We started from Sintra in the morning with my boyfriend with two signs - Norte and Porto, holding them together, and the guy Fred stopped and took us almost all the way there. He dropped us of on the beach, where he had a lunch with a friend which allowed us to enjoy some of the ocean :)

Seems like, in the reverse of everyone else, the spot at the entrance of A1 near Encarnação didn’t work for me after an hour. I walked to the gas station and got a ride in 5 minutes

Started very early with no cars, but a lot of cars coming out of Lisbon to the westernmost point of europe during the day and driving back in the evening

Nice spot, lots of traffic and good visibility. I was looking to go back to France, but decided to get a ride with a couple going to Caldas da Rainha in order to reach a gas station.

We (Girl & Boy) started asking around 14:45 and got a ride in 1 1/2h ! There were two other hitchhikers with us and they also got picked up relatively quickly. One with a sign and one asking the cars directly. I recommend doing both or atleast talking to them, that way they see how you are and you can google translate. Great spot 😁🌱

If you want to head north of Lisbon this is the place to start! Ask to head towards Highway A1

When heading South of Lisbon or towards Spain. Take the train to Foros de Amora and then cross under the highway to get at this gas station. Here you can ask people to take you.

If you want to head South of Lisbon you can start here. You will depend on people stopping for you only. As far as that goes it's a great place!

Even if cars pass by and they see you they'll probably not stop.

Drivers going here are probably headed to Lisbon city or to Caparica beaches. At this place cars are going slow. Cars will stop for you only, and having a cardboard with your destination can make it easier.
