Pretty empty on a Monday morning, asked around and found someone going to a town near Vilar Formoso (fluent Portuguese). If you’re coming from Guarda center it’s a 90 minute walk with some fence-hopping and train track-crossing―Lmaoyz

We left this place. No point to stay here. Be really carrefull on the highway by night.BTW, the highway was empty. And people are afraid even with 2 girls!?

It's a round about who connect the national road from Vilar Formoso (Border) to Guarda. That a bad place to hitchhike. People don't stop. Our solution was to walk on the highway for 3km until the next petrol station.
Take the direction of the A23, and follow the highway. During the night you will be in the dark after 500m. So be extremly carreful.

Car can stop, not a lot of car but after the roundabout the cars are slow !I think it’s the best spot to go in the west 🌸

We tried both at the petrol station and stood by the main road with a sign, but had no luck. Eventually a local drove us into town who told us that no one here would be likely to take a hitchhiker even if they were going the right way.―Anonymous

Seems like it should be a good spot to hitch west since there is a roundabout and places to pull over with the main direction out being Aveiro and Visue, but sadly in 2 hours a single car didn't stop.―Anonymous

It’s little bit dangerous to go in this spot, you have to cross a way to turn around the roundabout, but it’s a national road (legal). But your are sure about one things : people are going to Portugal and car can stop (even if it’s dangerous).
Donc benef 🌸

We hoped that a lot of people here would be heading to Portugal but this did not seem to be the case. Many, many people told us they lived locally and had come to fill up their car/eat at the restaurant. Eventually we did find a lift to Portugal but it felt like luck.―Anonymous
