This spot is awesome. I live in Coimbra, I tried this 3 times to go to Lisbon, and always got there extremely fast. top of the top. the lower roundabout is not so great, but there's a walking trail bringing you to this one!

I tried during 1 hour on the round-about down this one, and as soon as I arrived at this one I got a lift direct to Lisboa.

Direction Condeixa/Coimbra. After traffic lights, lot of space for a car to stop. I tried this spot, so close from the town because it was the closest one from where I stayed, but there should be some place closer to the center.

Took me a long time to wait here, but eventually a couple picked me up and took me straight onto the IP3 (east, direction Carregal do Sal).
The issue is that there are not many cars and most drive only very short distance. Maybe this spot is better in the evening, when people return home from work.
The reward for the long wait: the views from the road are absolutely stunning!

I don’t know why this spot is so great, looked on the map and it so much longer for cars to go through this spot than the other highway entrance. Waited quite a long time in the sun, nobody stopped and decided at the end of the day to take a bus

Hitched a ride from Arganil to here. No shade while waiting and quite dead around lunchtime on a monday, but eventually caught a ride to Coimbra from there. Lots of space to stop though.

The spot is good - but it took us quite long - almost 2h - as for 2 girls hitchhiking it’s quite long waiting time. We were standing with the Aveiro sign but it wasn’t working well, better just with the thumb up.
The dors were open, but it took us a moment to find where to enter the path ;)
