No luck today with hitchhiking in Portugal, waited for 3 hours on a Sunday morning until afternoon, which is so far my first that long of a wait ever, and then eventually took a train and then a bus to Faro, as I had a flight next morning from there.―anettlee17

1 direct drive to Porto in 15mn !Cars drive quite slowly, place to park, and a bit of straight between the 2 turns. The only problem they can't see you from far away. Pass away the interdiction for pedestrian people and after 10m be creative to pay attention of drivers.
For me, some huge hello! with my sign Porto and it worked very good. :)

I think it is a good spot for poeople going north (direction Villa Real/ Viseu), even though I was waiting for 1,5h here. To get here go north from the Old Town going by Avenida Fernao de Magalhaes, pass by the train station and bus station, then walk some 5 mins more in the same direction, just following the signs "Viseu". I was standing just after the sign "motorway", on the right side of the road.

We tried our luck along this road that becomes the national. We tried the two gas stations and the roundabouts further on the street. 1 of 3 parties got a ride to Lisboa, the others took a bus in the end. Better trie the higway entrance.―Anonymous
