There is plenty of spots but I tried to hitchhike for above 2 hours, even changing spots but almost nobody goes to Sighetu from Baia Mare, especially during weekends.―Ainur

Official HH spot for locals in direction South. Very popular. On a roundabout, just next a petrol station. Not far from train station. Quite easy to get there. Can get quite busy with local hitch hikers.―Anonymous

Just outside the city where meet the local traffic, the through one and the trucks. Direction south (Cluj-Napoca). Probably easier to get a long distance lift from there than from the center.Even a shelter (kiosk/stall) and some space for vehicles to stop. To get there take a trolleybus no 51 to Real/Prakktiker (running every 10-15 minutes) or one of the free bus for Real costumers (every 20/30 minutes). Go to the last station where the Real and Praktiker supermarkets are. Walk to the roundabout at the exit of town, some 500 meters away from the bus stop.
Some trafic from early in the morning till late in the evening. No street light.

Going to Merry Cemitery, to Creasta Cocosului or Ukraine. Get the bus 8 from Baia Mare and go all the way to the last stop, it will let you at a perfect place.―Anonymous
