Got an incredible ride with an old super nice Romanian guy. Once we arrived in Arad he took me to the town hall for a tour, then he showed me around the city, brought me home for lunch and gave me 200 lei

Maybe I was just lucky but a guy with his mom picked me up very quickly with my sign RO. He did make me cross the border on my own, but then he took me all the way to Timișoara

Perfect spot with excellent shoulder at the roundabout right in Giarmata. It is located along road "DJ691, about one kilometer west of the local train station (there's a few trains and buses per day from Timi to Giarmata, alternatively you could even thumb your way there from the city). The spot seems to be well frequented, as it's located along the main thoroughfare leading through Timisoara towards the north and motorway A1. Plus, there's plenty of long distance drivers, especially on sundays, heading towards Budapest, Vienna (the two of us manged to hitch a ride there in no time) and beyond.

Managed to hitch a ride straight to Romania. Plenty of traffic towards Hungary, Romania and Serbia, especially on fridays and saturdays. Great spot certainly worth the walk from the nearest Bratislava bus stop ("Čunovské jazerá").

Direction: South or East; Luboj, Craiova
This is the spot of the local people. Don't rely on their wisdom. Just sell yourself as a tourist by holding a sign and you have a higher chance of getting a free and longer ride.

I confirm this place, but it's used mainly by locals (I am local :P).

There's a bus stop right after the gas station. Also a nice place to hitch from, as it's not as crowded with people like the other one.

This is probably the best spot in TM, but it still took me 2:30 to find a free ride! Other 4 cars stopped before, but they all wanted money

it may be easiest to do "payed hitchhiking" as it is usual in Romania. Many local people wait at this spot to get to a village nearby as busses go infrequently and they pay a few Lei (romanian currency). Easiest is to also offer a few lei to get to the boarder

We waited for 20 min with a sign "Szeged" and got a direct lift to the center of Budapest.

we (female-male) wanted to go to budapest, hold up a sign "hungary" and after 15 minutes we got a lift going almost directly to budapest.
