After a year, I returned to this gas station. The story was similar, but it wasn't that late at night, and I managed to find a couple near Sibiu. Also, I met a pair of hitchhikers here, so it's likely a frequent spot. Overall, I believe this is a good spot for Sibiu and Bucharest.―martih

At a border checkpoint, I arrived late in the day and was asking around at the nearby truck stop. You can definitely find somebody there, but I had no luck. After that, I stood at the beginning of the highway with a sign reading "Arad," just to move to a better station, and after about 20 minutes, a very nice guy brought me there.―martih

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Budapest to Arad in Romania (successful). It looks like a very good spot. I was waiting at the end of the last grass island (by the very exit there wasn't enough space to stop) hitchhiking sometimes with a right hand and sometitimes with a left one. Occasionally with both so I looked like Jesus 😁
There is no shade. The toilets are free.
After 25 minutes Romanian lorry drivers picked me up and took to Arad.

Ok, this is likely a great spot, but I just didn´t have a lot of luck. It was night and asking around, the majority go just locally, don´t speak English, or are going on vacation with full cars. But after 4 hours asking around, I found some Slovaks who took me to Bucharest.―martih

I was in no rush, so take my waiting time with a grain of salt. This is a good place. A lot of trucks are going through this place, most of them heading toward Budapest, but after asking for a while, I got a ride directly to Romania.―martih

Tram 1b only runs twice a day. However, you can also take tram 6 to Piata Gai. From there it's a 2,5km walk.―Anonymous

In direction of Deva, Timisoara - it's great. A lot of cars are leaving here the city. In direction of Szeged - it's useless. It's better to get back to Timisoara and from there catch a ride to Szeged, being close to A1. You can stop a car only on a roundabout here, but there is a little space for that.―Anonymous

Many people are leaving the city (Arad) and drive in the direction of Timisoara. There is shadow under the bridge and a little space for cars to stop. It took us (f,26 and m,49) 30 Min. to get a lift―LariW

(Two people 26F + 49M) This place has changed in recent times. The old border buildings and facilities have been demolished and new ones have been erected further up towards the border. But there is not much infrastructure there any more as cars rarely have to stop. As of July 26 this map and the satellite images are not up to date anymore and the place is a bit desolate with little shade. As of now this is not a location where you would like to get stuck for the night. There is one very suitable spot in front of the containers where people pay the toll for the highway. You can easily approach the drivers and ask for a lift. Lots of long distance traffic. Of course you can also put your thumb out but we didn't really try.―LariW
