Lol didn't even had the time to write my sign (used the thumb while few cars were passing by) that a car with two Macedonians asked me where I go : "South, North Macedonia...Bulgaria?" "Come in!". Indirect ride to Skopje because they invited me at a generous grill restaurant! Had no problem to pass me trough the border, even though I was heavily controlled―cavalierrustique

I waited 5 minutes and had already two cars stopping for me without a sign lol. One was going to Leskovac but I checked is best to stop at gas station before Nis. I took bus 70 to go there. This is basically a nice little hike of 20mn and fence was open to pass through. I am a 27M with moustache and nice hat, if it helps.―cavalierrustique

I had a cardboard with NIŠ -> SOFIA sign but it didn't help much. What it helped it was asking the truck drivers if they would take me.―rikimongrel1

If you're heading towards Sofia/Istanbul, this is an average spot for hitchhiking; more drivers head towards Greece/Macedonia. We tried to hitchhike at a gas station for 2.5 hours, then moved directly onto the highway. After 45 minutes, a driver heading to Pirot stopped us. I don't know if we were unlucky or if it's actually a bad spot. It's hard to say. (Perhaps we should ask the drivers at the Nais Hotel on the other side.) Overall, it's a good place for a wild camping trip – there's a quiet meadow behind the fence, and if you need one, there's a shop and a toilet.―Moonhans

We tried to hitchhike towards Nisz/Sofia, heading towards Istanbul. After a few conversations, we managed (with a good deal of luck) to catch a driver heading towards Nisz. The driver was so kind and positive that he took us to Nisz, even though he was going slightly in the opposite direction. What's more, he took us to a huge dinner at a good local restaurant. (We broke the speed record while hitchhiking, reaching 188 km/h.) Overall, it seems like a great place to hitchhike towards Sofia, with heavy traffic from cars and trucks.―Moonhans

Regular but not abundant traffic, there were 4 trucks parked (Turkish and Bulgarian). I was lucky to get a ride from a Serbian border control all the way to Bulgarian border since the truck drivers parking there were not to keen on taking me. was holding a sign Pirot―Anonymous

Waited with a sign Nis, right on the highway just after the barriers (I saw two policemen looking guys hitch the same way). Hungarian driver going to Greece took me, Lots of traffic and no problem for car to stop directly on the road since the ones behind have to stop for the toll barrier anyway. Took bus 493 from Sava Centar in Beograd to get there, public transport is free (for now).―Anonymous

Kind of the only decent spot towards Bulgaria, police spend a lot of time here just as locals for coffee.I've been trying for 3h until night with the little traffic from the petrol station (police was there) and 4h straight on the highway the next morning with a sign BG - СРФИЯ.
Most cars were completely full, I left with a big beer box under my legs and my backpack on my knees, that was the only room available in the car, but I made it to Sofia.

Restaurant where many Turkish trucks stop. Your chance to get rides towards Belgrade or Sofia.―Anonymous

Good for hitching to Kosovo. High visibility and plenty of room for cars and trucks to pull over. Take bus 10 (direction 9. Maj) to the final stop and walk to the edge of the village. Don't bother walking to the cross with E75 as this is not an interchange.―Anonymous

ideal hitchhiking position in the village of Prosek, actually a parking area for trucks and joint place for all the roads going from Nis towards Bulgaria and Turkey. Visibility is excellent, place forces drivers to slow down as there's incoming long curve and lower ranked road entering the canyon, and also there are many trucks stopping by until they set off towards Bulgaria/Turkey.―Anonymous

Here, you may catch 70-80% of all locals driving out of the city towards Bulgarian border, but in most cases these are local rides to places on the way.―Anonymous

This is the most far place that you can reach on foot from the city that still isn't motorway. You can try hitchhiking here towards Belgrade, but vehicles are 98% domestic. The greatest value of this place is being relatively good spot for taking a ride to Hotel NAIS / toll ramps on the motorway, what is ideal hitch spot for Belgrade/north, but also Skopje/Macedonia/south. You may spot other hitchhikers here as well, such are students or other locals. 95% of cars passing here are definitely going towards Hotel NAIS/toll ramps.―Anonymous

Petrol station in this town. Right after the station, there's a curve that leads uphill, straight out of town towards Knjazevac, Zajechar and further. All drivers and trucks that are going through eastern Serbia using this main road have to pass via this point.
As it is still town and there's an uphill curve, traffic here is slow and visibility is very good.
This is the most logical point to hitchhike in Svrljig into direction north (not to Nis).

Toll ramps on the motorway. Excellent spot for getting a ride to Belgrade/north. To that direction, you can also hitchhike at the petrol station 200 meters backwards next to Hotel NAIS, where, especially in summer months, you'll find dozens of transit vehicles having a short break, so you can even negotiate with drivers and get a quick seat. This toll ramps are also an average to good place for hitchhiking towards south/Macedonia.

hitching point to places in eastern Serbia and further to Bulgaria (Vidin), Danube and Romania.Visibility is average for cars getting off from motorway, but good for locals coming from Nis, as they have to slow down in the curve while joining the road. Average number of trucks here, but many cars willing to pick you up all the way to Zajechar (7km away from border point with Bulgaria, close to Vidin/Belogradchik).
Generally, vehicles have to slow down here. Downside is lack of any roadside store/restaurant/parking, these are available some 1500 meters further in the village Malcha (you're standing at the edge of a village).

The petrol station between the toll counter and the city Nis. When I was there, the place was crowded with cars full of Turkish people form the Netherlands and Germany, but their cars where all completely filled up.After 4 hours of waiting, we decided to take the train.
