Very good spot for hitching with a sign in the direction of Czechia, got a ride to Brno within 10 minutes. Lots of cars with Slovak number plates but some with Czech plates too. The spot is after a crossroad, so cars don't go too fast, and they can stop at the bus station that is following afterwards. Make sure your sign is big enough since the street is very wide. Also make sure to apply sunscreen on sunny days, there is no shade whatsoever―Mangoontheroad

Had a sign saying Bratislava and stood next to the motorway entrance. Most cars were leaving the motorway to go to the industrial district, but after 25 minutes I got picked up by two Serbian guys around 30 driving directly to Bratislava. The gas station isn't frequented much, I think a sign works better here than asking people filling up their tanks. Good spot to go East―Mangoontheroad

We were 2 guys. We waited the day before during night unsuccesfuly. A relevant fact could be that shortly before the driver stopped we were joined by 2 women hitchhikers. A truck stopped for us that eventually took the girls, because at the same time another car stopped. Both cars took us all the way to Romania.―Korofin

The Ondrejovova bus stop is separated from "car lanes" by a bus lane, so I did what the other review suggested - I was thumbing with a sign right after the bus stop so that people could stop at the lane entering the gas station. It worked liked a charm and after 20 minutes I got a ride all the way to Zilina.―klawik

Waited here for 2 hours (1pm to 3pm) with a sign saying "Zilina" but noone stopped. There is A LOT of traffic. Big downsides are that 1) the cars are going pretty fast and 2) pulling over might seem a bit dodgy - there is a wide lane separated with a continuous line (emergency lane?), so it's probably not exactly legal to stop there, but I had seen plenty of people do it regardless.I then moved to a bus stop at Gagarinova street, which worked much better.

Bus stop, a lot of traffic going at rather low speeds, plenty of people headed for Bratislava (many cars with Slovak plates). A spot doesn't get much better than that!―klawik

The gas station also serves as a highway exit into the local industrial district and these cars generate most of the traffic, there aren't many cars actually going to Bratislava. That being said, this is most likely still the best place to get out of Vienna eastward.―klawik

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Brno to Budapest (successful). It looks like a really good place. At the end of the petrol station. Enough space for cars and lorries to stop. No shade (luckly it was a bit windy that day).
I got dropped here by a previous driver a bit before midday and after 25 minutes a Serbian lorry driver heading home picked me up and dropped on the outskirts of Budapest.
Due to road works on the highway it took us over 3,5 hours to reach the outskirts of Budapest. It looks the construction will last for quite some time.
