First person I asked took me to Ljubljana. He bought me a chocolate croissant. Easy.

Good place to go towards Maribor. It is a bus stop so there is a lot of space to pull over. Cars are not going fast because it's right after a roundabout.

Have sign novo mesto, Zagreb. My goal it's to just go out of the city, and next find some gas station.

Guy and girl heading to Ljubljana. Bus stop is a good spot, quickly got a lift all the way (with sightseeing stops on the way). Lots of tourists crossing the pass, and the road is super wide at that point. Maybe we were a bit lucky that the layby wasn't full of parked cars yet as the parking seemed crazy on the pass.

I was sitting on the railing at the end of the rest area.

Really nice spot, cars going to Maribor are in right lane. I was hh in early morning so the traffic was really chill.

this place was for me way more succesful to go north than the one inside the ring. There is a bus going very close to here so it is accessible.

Lots of traffic, and a good spot for people to pull over. Stand before the side street entrance

Great spot, we have the sign and got the ride all the way to Maribor. There is good place to stop and also shopping center is near.

Maybe it was the rain, but this was dead.
The spot is good in theory, it’s the first services after the Austrian border, and it’s easy to reach from Jesenice. Our walk from the train station was a couple of kilometres, but the underpass and service road maybe it very easy. Adding to that the both the gate to the construction site, and the subsequent one to the services itself were both unlocked, we thought we were in for a treat! (Despite being soaked through to the skin.)
Then when we got there, disappointment set it. In was next to silent, and all the traffic was Austrian. Oops.
There was nowhere good to stand in the rain, so we resorted to asking, and after a few firm NEINs, we finally met Rosemary.
She had never taken a hitcher before and neither her nor her husband spoke any English. The turning point however, was when she learned I spoke Spanish, and decided I’d make some good practice for her on the way!
So there we were, two French people soaked to the skin, in the back of a brand new Austrian Merc, speaking Spanish, to an Austrian, on her way to the dentist in Slovenia.
If this isn’t why we hitch, I don’t know what is!

A bit of traffic there, people are a bit hesitant to pick up, but we went front of the entrance to the raststatte and got picked up 5 min after it, cause there was enough space for people to see us and stop

Waited 10 min for a ride to ljubljana with an LJ sign on a saturday at 8am. There is a good space for people to stop at the bus stop.

mostly local drivers but still a good number of slovenian plates. even at 7pm we had two cars stop for us, the first going to villach and the second to ljubljana, getting a lift earlier is probably even easier! we talked to drivers at the station for a little bit but we had better luck standing below the streetlight in front of the station with a sign for ljubljana.

There is a street going to the right where cars can stop. For direction Maribor it's good as everyone is on the right hand lane already. Need a sign!

Tuesday at noon. Second car we asked got us to Ljubljana. Lucky, but should be quite easy.

Great spot towards Maribor (MB), Celje (CE) and Graz (Austria). Stand next to the highway sign, it's a very popular spot. Arrive there by taking bus 6 to station "Smelt" (Direction Crnuce), from there continue straight and you will see the highway on your right.

As I revisited the place to hitchhike to Celje few days ago I wouldn't recommend the place any more as I did in the comment before. The place isn't safe for a car to stop. A lot of them are speeding and if one car stops they can cause a road block or an accident.

Since I saw I couldn't get a ride there I went to a personally favourite place at the end of Šmartinska street. Bus number 2 - last stop.
