Theoretically a perfect place to hitchhike. Most people are going in the right direction, the cars are moving slowly and there's lots of places to stop. Still, it didn't seem like anyone was going to stop for me.In the end, I smiled and waved at someone and they stopped. They said they never took hitchhikers before.
There are two checkpoints and I recommend trying both. I had luck when I moved from the croatian side to the slovenian side.
The driver took me to the bridge near Kirk and I found a lovely spot to camp. Walk down to Plaža Črišnjeva (there is a bar if you want to refill water or treat yourself to a beer). Walk along the coastal path. I found a small rocky beach to sleep on for the night. Will mark it on the map!

Lots of traffic due to a 2cv citroen car festival. It meant a lot of the traffic was local but there were also cars going further. I was picked up by a smart car. My first time in a smart car - they're bigger than you think!Driver took me past where he was going and dropped me at the border crossing for Croatia.

At Rupa, there is also a service station. Hitching is OK from there, but traffic going in different directions (either Austria/Slovakia or Italy).―Laura13

Right after the central square in Podgrad, there is a place for cars to stop and, right after, a gas station. Cars in the gas station head mostly to Italy/North though. Using a sign HR, two guys got a ride to Bakar (after Rijeka) from the parking spot.―Anonymous
