Fantastic spot on the corner of the petrol station. Traffic is steady and there’s plenty of space to stop. I finished writing my sign to ‘Granada’ and applied some suncream and as soon as I held it out the second car stopped and said he was going all the way to Granada! (On his way to Madrid) Literally took 2 seconds. I jumped out near Malaga however since I got a couchsurfing acceptance. I was alone as a female hitch-hiker this was around 10am on a Saturday.―birdpond

we got a ride here from Tarifa, and was a great sunset place to find a ride to sevilla (we chose a gas station 1h south of sevilla, to hitch onwards to Portugal). possible both to thumb and to wait for cars to stop for gas.―kiko

Ni provis ĝin iomete ĉe la bushaltejo kaj decidis esti pli aventuremaj poste, kaj Majstro Daniel veturigis nin al Sabinillas kaj donacis al ni fruktojn tie.―Jurobola

Europa point. Tourists come here with cars, park, look around and drive back. Easy targets. Had a lift all the way to Tarifa from here.―Anonymous

A plain street, but cars have to go slow and see you from far. They can easily pull out. Lots of international traffic (for Spain). Got a lift to Gibraltar after 15 Minutes.―Anonymous

Don't try it on winter or rainy days as no toursits will come. Better hitch the border.―Anonymous

I had to pay for the ferry after hitchhiking from Paris to Tarifa. It costs 37 euros or 39, did not try in algeciras. I confirm, you can sleep on the beach, it's a wonderful place and a quiet rest for a night or two !―Ewan gweznou

I tried getting a lift to france here and at other spots around the harbour for two days without success, giving up and taking a bus to Barcelona in the end (If you go with Alsa and have a used ticket of the ferry, which you can get by asking people at the exit of the main building, you get a 20% discount). There are some cars going to France and further but they are mostly full or where not willing to take me. There are some trucks exiting here as well. This seems like the best spot, it is well lit so you can try your luck here at night as well. Traffic comes in waves with the ferries, so you have periods without traffic which gives you time to rest. I tried along the road towards the bridge as well and behind the bridge, but this was the most comfortable spot.―LukasR

When I tried hitchhiking after the check point the police told me that it is not possible or allowed to hitchhike in Spain, so I tried around the harbour instead where police didn't mind me even in the not so pedestrian friendly areas. Probably the guy working here just had a bad day.―LukasR
