Well, we firstly tried to stop to Zaragoza, that didnt work out too well, then we switched to Valencia, after an hour we got a ride to a gas station near tarragona

In theory, this should be a great hitchhiking spot. The cars are exiting a roundabout, so they're not going that fast, and visibility is great, so they can see you from afar. On top of that, you can also signal to cars leaving the gas station. Despite all this, I waited for longer than I expected. In the end, and old couple in an audi took me somewhere where I could catch a local train to Barcelona. The whole thing still took shorter than the rail replacement that I chose to skip. I had a sign with "Berga" and "Manresa" on it.

Fairly busy gas station with restaurant.
Exit ramp is not super long but it's ok to wait there with sign.
No shade to hide in while waiting for a car.
It was Sunday, so I think lot of people was on journey home.
I was heading to Barcelona and got ride to Zaragoza.
Behind the gas station is little fores suitable for hammock.

This is a good spot and me and my LoVE with our dog were suprised with tha car that took us. I was playing some music on my viola so maybe that helped?! Who knows…;)

This is one of the best spots in Manresa to go to Barcelona! We tried the two roundabout more in the north before for 1h15 but it was not working.
So we mooved and get a course in 2 min!!
The spot is perfect with great space for the cars to stop before the roundabout.

Not that great of a spot. Hitchiking in early November (2 guys) going south, waited for 3 hours before a Ukrainian guy took us to our destination, Peniscola. Although I don't know what would be a better spot to leave Barcelona.

After an all too brief visit to Barcelona, I decided to begin my journey north, back towards my home. The original plan was to follow the coast, but being right in the middle of one of Spain's worst heatwaves in years, I decided north to Andorra would be a wiser (and prettier) option. I took the train with a Greek girl I met to Montserrat, where she promised a cable car, a very scenic train, and a monastery, how could I say no! After arriving, she told me she was staying that night in the monastery, and I decided to accompany her to help translate since she didn't speak any Spanish. This lead to a fantastic lunch with the monks and priests amongst the Dia De San Joan celebrations!

Upon leaving, the bridge seemed like the most logical place to try to stop traffic. However, after an hour of shouted remarks from the patrons of the café across the road, and plenty of middle fingers from passing cars, my patience was starting to ware thin… After a quick beer to recharge, a refill of my water bottle, and another half hour wait, I got a lift from a very loud Spanish man up the motorway a little ways. Despite my pleas to drop me at a service station, he insisted in dropping me in his terrible hometown, Sallent…

If you choose to hitch from here, I'd still say the bridge is the best option going, and the train to the monastery is probably one of the most scenic options for getting out of Barcelona. However for your own sanity, definitely do not leave the motorway, get yourself dropped at a service station!

the staff is friendly and helpful. the spot was empty during the night, as pretty much all in spain. and mind you it was during the apagón. it works for several directions, namely murcia, valencia, one trucker even said he was going to badajoz. eventually a romanian van driver took me all the way to porta de barcelona, even a bit out of his way. thanks, mihail

Ride right to Barcelona, it would have been most convenient for me to jump out of the car on the highway in the city center. I guess the driver felt like it was more safe for them to drive further into their neighborhood to let me leave the car - I agreed.

Big service area and gas stations. East side of the road is towards Lleida and Zaragoza, west side towards Valencia.

To get here, you can take a train from Barcelona (Sants station, or so) towards Matorell.

Get off at Castellbisbal. Go behind the small station, walk over the short bridge (or was it just a raised road), and then immediately turn right and follow the dirt track back in the direction you came with the train. You will come to the service area.

Watch for the privet security, they are asked to chaise away hitchhikers. They asked me to do it with a banner a bit further, and not to talk to the drivers as I normally do.

It's a good place, we took a ride in 20 minutes froma taxi driver without even asking, but it' a little bit expensive, 2,95€ for the train that is leaving you about 2-3 km walking from the gas station + 2€ for the single bus ticket if youb are too far from the train station
