After an all too brief visit to Barcelona, I decided to begin my journey north, back towards my home. The original plan was to follow the coast, but being right in the middle of one of Spain's worst heatwaves in years, I decided north to Andorra would be a wiser (and prettier) option. I took the train with a Greek girl I met to Montserrat, where she promised a cable car, a very scenic train, and a monastery, how could I say no! After arriving, she told me she was staying that night in the monastery, and I decided to accompany her to help translate since she didn't speak any Spanish. This lead to a fantastic lunch with the monks and priests amongst the Dia De San Joan celebrations!Upon leaving, the bridge seemed like the most logical place to try to stop traffic. However, after an hour of shouted remarks from the patrons of the café across the road, and plenty of middle fingers from passing cars, my patience was starting to ware thin… After a quick beer to recharge, a refill of my water bottle, and another half hour wait, I got a lift from a very loud Spanish man up the motorway a little ways. Despite my pleas to drop me at a service station, he insisted in dropping me in his terrible hometown, Sallent…
If you choose to hitch from here, I'd still say the bridge is the best option going, and the train to the monastery is probably one of the most scenic options for getting out of Barcelona. However for your own sanity, definitely do not leave the motorway, get yourself dropped at a service station!

Maybe I got very lucky but found a ride out of the city very quickly with an A2 sign. A lot if room for cars and slow speeds after the roundabout. Reachable easily by metro and bus.―VeikkaK

i was going dlin direction lleida, i had a big ass sign, my mistake was to leave barcelona with a lift that wasnt direct to there, and ended up in igualada. i had to walk a bit to get here, the most obvious spot to go west (enogh space for car to see you and to stop too), and soon after a nice guy drove me 10min inside the autopista to a quite big service station, where i actually found a lift all the way to madrid. so it went well in the end―mutterichbindoom

Good place to catch a long distance ride with cars heading all the way to Madrid or Pamplona. There is quite a bit of truck traffic too. This area also has a very decent and cheap buffet (€8/person as of July 2023), so a lot of people driving from Barcelona stop here. This is a local spot and there aren’t many foreigners, so knowing Spanish or Catalan is important. The best strategy is to talk to people at the gas station but standing with a sign on a ramp leading to the highway works too.―Kozilia

got dropped here trying to flee barcelonai reccomend to wait until you find the right lift, rather than do a bunch a km and get lost in this area
the gas station is decent size, if you ask arpund you MIGHT find someone, i gave up quite quickly since at around 2.30PM there very few cars
eventually took a bus for Igualada, that bus stop is just there. its quite expensive, almost 5€

Was walking down the hill from monserrat since more than 30 min when a lady picked me up and brought me to Manresa. It was very early in the morning, so not so many cars… i expect in the afternoon when many people are going down it’s easier to get a ride :)―Anonymous

Not the best spot to Llieda direction as most of the people were going to Barcelona. Got a short ride from an Indian taxi driver eventually.―VeikkaK
