If you're hitchhiking to Santander/Bilbao, make sure to stand HERE and not on the much smaller CA-141, which noones uses for bigger distances. We made this mistake and waited hours on CA-141, until someone told us to wait here. Here we got a ride within 30 minutes to Santander. Lot of tourists come here because of the big beach. Supermarket on the corner.―Anonymous

There is a wild path between the highway and the fence. If you are walking from the local road, the road starts behind a bench near a high-voltage pole. The road begins here 43.329373,-3.070080―ury

(Direction Bilbao) I am not sure about that because me and my friend ended up finding a ride to Laredo thanks to a lady we met earlier in the day (the one that brought us back from a bad spot to the city), but some locals suggested us this place. There is a gas station on the other side of the road and some traffic lights. We asked both with the thumb and with a sign―Marco

The way to this big petrol station in direction Santander: Go to the bus stop Los heros, from there cross the bridge, turn right and walk aprox 300m until you reach the high waltage mast on your right side (it's visible on the map). Turn right to it thru the grass, on your left is a fence - if you follow the fence - there is trodden path through the bushes - you will reach the petrol station over the exit to the highway easily in 3 minutes (with a bit of scratch legs - but we are not sissies right:D). This is the fastest way. Then took me 30min to catch a car but its about luck. It's most convenient spot to hh out of Bilbao.―pergl

(Direction Bilbao) Some police officer suggested me and my friend this place after telling us that the gas station was too dangerous (the gas station I talk about is the one with many reviews). Although this, the place kinda sucks. Just a lot of internal traffic close to a mall. We waited for a long time till someone told us that it wasn’t a great idea to hitchhike there and brought us back to the city. We waited both with the thumb and with a sign.―Marco

Amazing spot. Got a ride very fast. Cantabria in general works great for hitch hiking from my experience. Unlike Asturias :)―Anonymous

As I left Meruelo by foot, got a ride immediately from a amazingly nice Madrilene family, took me to Güemes where I went to the pilgrim's hostel held by a priest. Just had to walk a 30 mins by foot.―Anonymous

I was in a very unsafe spot. The road from Cicero to Santogna has no space for pedestrians. Thanks to Osvald who stopped fast enough to give me a ride.

There is some space before the roundabout for the cars to pull over. However it's not the easiest hitchhikers place. Spaniards don't really want to take strangers:( patience required―ury

Walked from the coast, hitch hiking, finally got a ride from a nice lady to Meruelo, biggest inland borough before the bay of Santander. Don't count on this spot though. It was poorly chosen. The fact remain that Cantabria is a great region for hitchhiking, because people here feel generally quite relax and nice.―Anonymous

Idk why the website putted my point in this position. I was actually hitchhiking along “la Castillas” street―Marco

We where in front of the lidl and at the side for a really long time, no one is going to sandander at leat in the evening, the cars that stopped always went east, we just had luck that one guy drove us just out of kindness to the place we wanted, the people usually drive past you three times, a lot of traffic, a lot of smiles but a lot of frustration. We couldn't find out but I still guess without a sign you have more chances that you leave this place somehow―Nanuk

Not bad, but not great spot for the travel in direction of Bilbao an beyond. I asked all suitable people of the whole place and 80% said, they are going to Sandtander. 30 Minutes were used to wait, not asking people, until Police leaves the place, because I was unsure if its legal to hitchhike here.An old man gave me a ride to the next gas station.

Not great, but not totally bad spot. Enough place for cars to stop, because of the bus station. The driver took me to the la pausa gas station on the highway to Bilbao.
