Got dropped off at this gas station. In short time I saw a Deutschland car and tried my luck. I asked politely in German if they had a spot for me. a
Wir haben auf dem Weg viel geredet.
I don't think that I would get this ride without knowing German so know your languages! ;)

Gas station to the south and east. Not the perfect spot, only cars from one lane can stop here, but worked in the end.―Anonymous

I agree cars won't stop - driving too fast, we were even asked by gasolinera workers to leave the place due to creating dangerous situation―PMV

Cars won't stop here. They are going too fast and there is little place to pull over. Just ask at the gasolinera instead.―Jackortega

You can EITHER ask on the gas station OR stand behind the gas station witha sign (there are a lot of cars entering the big road). There are a lot of local people who go to places nearby like Malianio, el Corte Ingles or Astillero but also people going to Torrelavega, Solares, Bilbao and so on.
If you want to go direction Bilbao: You need at least somebody until Solares, because there is a good petrol petrol OR you can stand next to the entry to the high way.

I just tried this spot and didn't like it very much. There's not that much space for cars to stop. I just walked 50 meters before the roundabout, cars can stop easily there.―Divagueame

rather average hitch place on the roundabout, we waited about 1 hour for a ride to Torrelavega - despite the broad roadside drivers does not want to stop willingly - a very big advantage is heavy traffic and availabilityof this place from city center―Anonymous

If you're hitchhiking to Santander/Bilbao, make sure to stand HERE and not on the much smaller CA-141, which noones uses for bigger distances. We made this mistake and waited hours on CA-141, until someone told us to wait here. Here we got a ride within 30 minutes to Santander. Lot of tourists come here because of the big beach. Supermarket on the corner.―Anonymous

Hitched a ride in no time to Torrelavega from here. Just stand in the roundabout, before the entrance there's some space for the cars to stop.―Anonymous

Not the busiest gas station but you can also stand just befpre the ramp andincrease your chances of getting picked up―Anonymous

For the direction of Porto in Portugal, someone take us for the direction of Oviedo, so it's a nice spot. Even more because we wait under the rain―Louis

(Direction Bilbao) I am not sure about that because me and my friend ended up finding a ride to Laredo thanks to a lady we met earlier in the day (the one that brought us back from a bad spot to the city), but some locals suggested us this place. There is a gas station on the other side of the road and some traffic lights. We asked both with the thumb and with a sign―Marco

We waited for a bit, I don’t think is a great spot. The police asked us to move to a safer place, the cars go pretty fast and don’t have much place to break and stop.―Marco
