-To Izmir / Ferry Eskihisar -
Took the train from Istanbul to Gebze and walked up to the road. Stood just behind the entrance and directly got a ride to the ferry in Ehiskisar.
Visibility is not too good.

This is the best place to HH through south from Istanbul. Most of the cars and trucks are taking the ferry from Eskihisar and there is only one road passing through here so very likely to get on in half an our ...

If you arrived here, from Istanbul, it is probably because you followed what it was told on the wiki page (Train to Gebze, 1,5TL). This is not a really good place to hh. It seems like a motorway, but it's not. Nothing is lost : I would advice to take a minibus to the O4 Motorway, about 4km away. There you will probably have more chances, as evryone going east takes this road.

We hitchhiked just in front of the ferry terminal and got a ride to Yalova. Just ask some drivers.

We were at the ferry with our backpacks and a sign to Bursa and a truck driver came to us and tell us that we can go with him

We've got a ride directly to the ferry terminal to go south to Bursa/Izmir.

Really good place to hitchhike to South. Just try to find a good place to stop the car. Mostly I try to stop small car, not the trucks... to be faster and it works.
I've never tried going north from here. So I don't know about that.

Very good spot. Took a ferry from Istanbul (Yenikapi) to Yalova to hitchhike to the south. It took 15 minutes to catch a car.

Catching to Bursa is the easiest way, cars driving fast, but have place to stop, on places before os used only for locals, taxis and buses

We took the ferry from Istanbul (Yenikapi) to Yalova to HH our way south. There is a big bus stop at this spot, so perfect for cars to pull over. Lots of traffic, but we (couple, late 20s) still had to wait an hour for the first car to stop. They took us all the way to Kusadasi, which is even further than we planned for the day (originally we planned to get to Izmir). PS: We used a sign saying Bursa/Izmir and we can't really tell whether it's better to have one or not

We were a couple around 20s and wanted to go to ayvalik. In general, three cars stopped , two for balikeshir and one to bursa so we went there. we had a sign also that said ayvalik/bursa.

Bad spot to hitchhike towards south. Try to find someone going to the ferry in Eskihisar
