-To Izmir / Ferry Eskihisar -Took the train from Istanbul to Gebze and walked up to the road. Stood just behind the entrance and directly got a ride to the ferry in Ehiskisar.
Visibility is not too good.

First I waited 90min before and after toll station. Heavy traffic and somewhat slow. Then I asked the guards at the toll station and they said I can stay right next to it. This is the best place to HH through south from Istanbul. Most of the cars and trucks are taking the ferry from Eskihisar and there is only one road passing through here so very likely to get on in half an our ...―Anonymous

If you arrived here, from Istanbul, it is probably because you followed what it was told on the wiki page (Train to Gebze, 1,5TL). This is not a really good place to hh. It seems like a motorway, but it's not. Nothing is lost : I would advice to take a minibus to the O4 Motorway, about 4km away. There you will probably have more chances, as evryone going east takes this road.―Anonymous

Parking on the motorway O4 Anadolu Otoyolu. There is no petrol station, but many drivers stop here to grab some food from small restaurant. You can get to nearby district Ferhatpasa by buses 19, 19C and 19Y from Kadikoy (close to ferry terminal on Asian side).―Anonymous
