This is a bit of a special spot - it can be very rewarding if you're going north (don't bother if you're going south, service stations are a much better bet) - but it's super hard work to find the right spot to ask around (for example short term parking spots, although there are a lot of taxi drivers and people going to london), and there is so much going on... plus airport security might not really like you so much.―Anonymous

It 's forbiden to stay anyway at Heathrow with a sign. I tried to wait at Arrival hall on Terminal 1, by taxi drivers. When you see taxi driver going out with olny one person just ask them about lift to center. I got ride with first person I asked.―Anonymous

Would have to agree that airport security can be cagey. There is a free travel zone operating around the airport on the tube/buses which will get you to the A4 or A30 (Hatton Cross tube station) which would be far safer areas to hitch from.http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/heathrowterminals123-13970.pdf

I agree coming off the M3 towards is a bad idea here, although there is a train station with no barriers and is hardly ever checked. good advice if stuck is heading to sunningdale and hopping the train at a late peak time. if towards reading there are no barriers at Early station, if towards london there are barriers at Clapham junction but at peak times these are almost always open.―Anonymous

All the Slough junctions are bad , tight corners , nowhere to stop . Avoid Slough M4 junctions 5, 6 , 7 and 8―Colinc

The traffic lights on the roundabout may be the only chance to get a lift on M25 from Staines or around. Cars have no space to pull over so you need to be quick.―Anonymous

Small parking lot with no asphalt is the only chance to stop people going from Slough, you might be lucky to get someone going past London on M25. Cars are generally quite fast here to stop.―Anonymous

On-ramp 14 M25 direction north, nice spot with lots of traffic and place for cars to stop. Sign might be good because of the upcoming junction with the M4 and M40.―Anonymous

On-ramp 5, M4 direction Reading, Bristol. Didn't seem so bad, but traffic is fast and simply doesn't stop.―Anonymous

Busy gas station with lots of traffic from the UK. Found someone to take me on the ferry and straight to London from here. This was in mid August around 4 pm.―thebeekeeper

We spent a long time in the gas station speaking with people, but everyone was going to London, so when it stopped raining we crossed the road and got a car to Luton. The M&S crew is lovely and can help you

The spot is okay but drivers seems to don't like when there is no real parking stop. Having a sign may be good―Anonymous
