Most people go to the ring road, but at the end i found someone who went to Exeter.

It took a while to find someone, but at the end I asked someone who was filling his tank, going to Exeter.

superb hitching point (service area) for bristol, birmingham etc.

The point is great for hitching towards Oxford/Birmingham (M40) or M25 - also, there is a hatched-marking section, where a car can stop to pick you up even when the traffic is heavy.
Always stand with a sign stating your destination, as a lot of traffic goes round M25.

Also, there is an OxfordTube bus stop nearby, so you can always take the bus if you are really stuck.

Good place for hitch-hiking onto M40 - 1.5 miles away from Uxbridge station. Make sure the driver is going straight through on M40, and not on M25

This hitch-hiking spot lies just next to a bus stop, and just after a pedestrian crossing, so the traffic passing this point is quite slow. Good for getting onto the M3

This is a bit of a special spot - it can be very rewarding if you're going north (don't bother if you're going south, service stations are a much better bet) - but it's super hard work to find the right spot to ask around (for example short term parking spots, although there are a lot of taxi drivers and people going to london), and there is so much going on... plus airport security might not really like you so much.

Had a lot of problems finding somebody going south on the M25, but M4 seems to be easy. Was surprised by the lack of traffic.

Very good place, not so much traffic, but easy to catch someone on a road going to Bristol. Have been catching for almost 15 minutes.

Near H28 and 111 bus stops and quite far away from Hounslow West metro station from Picadilly Line.

Great spot, got a ride north easily with a sign saying M40 where I could easily keep hitching all the way to Glasgow

Worked for me aswell. Cars can stop there very easy, as there is some place beside the road.

Lots of rich people coming from london mostly not used to seeing hitchhikers. Although the spot looked great.

I came from Uxbridge and thought this spot must be good but most people didnt bother and never stopped. People are also going local or to heathrow. Ended up asking people at the traffic light.

I would also recommend the Shell petrol station a short walk west along the A316

It 's forbiden to stay anyway at Heathrow with a sign. I tried to wait at Arrival hall on Terminal 1, by taxi drivers. When you see taxi driver going out with olny one person just ask them about lift to center. I got ride with first person I asked.

Would have to agree that airport security can be cagey. There is a free travel zone operating around the airport on the tube/buses which will get you to the A4 or A30 (Hatton Cross tube station) which would be far safer areas to hitch from.

I agree coming off the M3 towards is a bad idea here, although there is a train station with no barriers and is hardly ever checked. good advice if stuck is heading to sunningdale and hopping the train at a late peak time. if towards reading there are no barriers at Early station, if towards london there are barriers at Clapham junction but at peak times these are almost always open.

From local knowledge I can confirm that this is quite a fast moving roundabout.
