we were heading to Dover. it took a while to get a lift, but we were 3 people. our friends arrived to hitch after us and took a lift before us (cheeky). eventually found a lift to Maidstone after trying several spots (food court, fuel station, roundabout). Lots of French/German/Belgian/etc cars around.―Alifeee

West Thurrock service area. Good to get lifts to Europe! Have done it several times in 2006. £5 from central London to get there. Any questions: freddy_e@gmx.de―Anonymous

I was heading to North trying to get to the M6, Didn't go so well, The cars at the mall seemed to be all locals, and truckers couldn't take me due to insurance bla bla. At around 20:00 a Services dude chatted with me, Told me to ask the truckers only and wait at the exit of the Truck Petrol station in between. He then helped me out to find a Lorry heading north, In about 45min "we" found a ride to Bermingham―Erth Walker

Most of the traffic here was lorries that weren't allowed to take hitchers (maybe insurance policies have changed since 2006?). Took two hours to get a ride to Maidstone.―Ednaxe

I managed to hitch a ride towards London from the Shell garage one weekday morning. I had to wait about 20 minutes which was less time than I expected. It might have been a fluke, but I would certainly give this place a go.―Anonymous

Thurrock services: Me and a friend spent around 4 hours over two days before we got a lift. Although, we did have people pulling up but unforunately they were going in a different direction to where we wanted to go (south eastwards) (April 2015).―Anonymous

Me and a friend thumbed outside of Wickes and after about 15 mins, a taxi driver on his way to London picked us up. We also had a guy in town who gave us a lift after we asked him for directions (April 2015).―Anonymous

Was asking around here, tryingto get onto the m25 (dartford maybe). Took really long, because everybody here was local. They were all really nice and helpfull though.―Anonymous

Very frequent offers for lifts, but all heading in the wrong direction (apparently) up North - we were trying to head South. Standing on this point you can ask all the customers coming out the drive through with their windows down so easy to talk. to everyone. Eventually got a lift along the M25 from someone taking pity on us, while he was parked eating his lunch.―louie

Despite the wait time we felt this was a good spot and we were just unlucky. We had a good number of offers but all were heading anti-clockwise on M25, we wanted to go clockwise. Best bet here is to just wait at the entrance to the petrol and ask everyone as they fill up. Lots of van drivers going round the M25. Eventually got a lift over the dartford crossing.―louie
