Me and a friend waited only 15mins at around 7:30am and got a lift going to London. We stood just before the petrol station. It worked well as people are slowing down because of the lights and can pull in to the petrol station easily if they want to pick you up. Staff also let us use the toilet there.

il faut se poser avant le rond point car il n'y a pas de place a la sortie pour aller sur l'autoroute direction londres. il y a pas mal de trafic et les voitures sont ralenti ou arrêté avant le rond point donc elles ont le temps de nous voir et nous prendre.

Okay spot to get to the highway. Better ask people for a lift instead of waiting

best bet for hitching west from brighton. Don't bother with the layby further along the A27, you might get a lift but generally traffic's too fast. Just off the roundabout there's room for another car to pass one that stops for you.

Good place to catch a ride north to London. Waited 20 mins, which is about the same time as waiting for a train. Plus no hyper inflated rail fares!

After maybe 15 minutes we got a ride. The driver stopped in the gas station and we're in. It was maybe 4.30 in the evening and there was already some traffic. When the light was red a little traffic jam obliged the drivers to stop the car and ultimately stare at us, which was kind of funny if you're confortable with it.

Brilliant spot - did it on a Wednesday in November on a clear day, stood by the tree trunk outside the petrol station - got a lift to Kingston in about 11 mins, just with a thumb.
