A pretty good gas station, if you need a ride towards Cambridge or London. I got a ride in a moment. There is a lot of traffic.―martih

I would very much advice you not to hitchhike from this place. I tried red light hitchhiking, it worked for me before, but not here. The lights changes fast, so there is no time to stop and for direction Cambridge the traffic is pretty weak as well. I had to walk to a nerby gas station like 6 kilometers and it was not a pleasant experience in scorching summer heat. But if you have to walk to the same gas station as I did, don't use Google maps, you can easily walk around the farms, it's only private property when it comes to cars and it's easily walkable.―martih

I stood on central isle with a sign Cambridge. I got a car to New Market. This spot is decent, cars have to stop and it's your direction. For the British standards this is a good one.―martih

I never like hitching from within cities too much heckling so we ditched this spot after 20 mins to try further down the road―ActingOutColours

My hitching partner has had success here a couple times but with long waits, very little traffic and this time we gave up and went to the better(in some senses) spot nearer the motorway―ActingOutColours

Have done thid spot a couple times and with a 'Cambridge' sign we(Male & Female) seem to get lifts faster than it took to make the sign―ActingOutColours

Direction Ely - this is the best place to hitch out of Newmarket by far. It gets traffic from the A14 as well as the Newmarket area. There is a care home and then a lay-by right after it, where cars can safely pull over.―Anonymous

good spot for getting onto a11 from m11, delivery drivers with sat navs often take this route rather than junction to south, wide road slow traffic after r'bout―Anonymous

Lay-by bus stop before traffic lights with covered shelter. Nearly all traffic heading out of Cambridge city center heading south passes here. Local shops and petrol station just to the north, supermarket just to the south.―Anonymous

Took 20 minutes to get a ride to London on a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of traffic, but most too surprised to see a hitchhiker to think about pulling over.―Marianneke

I was stuck there and it got dark. Most drivers thought the layby is another lane turning left and drove very close to me, ending up on the end of the layby. I think there are better places north of here.―Anonymous

haven't hh from there but walked past, cycle line starts just after the roundabout, enough space for cars to pull over plus them being slow. you easily get there by foot, beautiful to walk through Jesus Green and Midsummer Common Park! If you dont like this spot continue walking for another 15 min. -> direction Norwich―Anonymous
