It is a petrol station in the Highway M1. Its a very good place to start if you want to go far, and you dont have time to wait for a lift from the city center. To get here you can take the buses 13A, 48, 152, 153, 158 from the center of Leicester. The ticket is around 2 or 3 pounds. If you say you want to go as close as possible to the M1 bridge, the bus driver will tell you where to jump off along Hinckley road. You take then Baines Lane until you are in the petrol station, you can use this place both to go north or south (there is a bridge before the petrol station and in the restourant as well). I´ve use it on April 2008. There are no gates, easy acces. I was droped here when coming from London, I went back to the bus stop in Hinckley road, and somebody picked me up in 5 minutes to the city center. for further questions danielodv(at)gmail.com―Anonymous

Direction- M1 (south or north)Leaving leicester, walking down Narborough Rd away from city centre, just past Tesco petrol station. We stood out in bus lane so were fairl visable, cars should be able to stop easily because of bus lane. We waited here for 3 minutesand got a lift straight to London. This is your last chance for cars to stop before road narrows.

Waited for around an hour before getting a lift to Leeds on the M1 North. Slow cars, decent amount of traffic and space to stop.―Anonymous

Also note that if you walk through a field at the coach park end of the services you will reach a bus stop on the regular 24hr Skylink route linking Derby and Leicester with East Midlands airport, it is about £4 for a single ticket to either destination (2013)―Willochrome

Got stuck here for almost 6 hours (from 6pm, heading South to Birmingham) and no luck so night at the services was "fun." Traveling North might be a completely different story though.―Anonymous

[M1 SOUTH]I spent much time surveying the area around the services and there are not that many safe places to stop; The best place to hitch from seemed to be holding a sign out by the entrance to the services building and striking up conversations with people passing in and out. After about half an hour I found a hitch to Northampton Services, well on the way to London.

Stuck at this garage for four hours in the freezing cold. If you're going south on the M42, try to do it all in one go if you can, I can't explain why but I always find it real sticky. The caretaker/attendant guy at this garage was friendly, at least.―Anonymous

I arrived at the spot, on a monday at 10:30. Given this gas station being fairly big and having a high traffic frequency I was astonished that I only after more than two-and-a-half hours, the first vehicle stopped to pick me up. I am not sure, if this was due to the rain, or the spot being located in Britain. Tough Time!―Anonymous
