Really good spot, lots of charging ports for teslas - traffic go all ways but there’s lots of it. Met the only other hitchhiker I’ve ever seen in the uk here so it’s got an automatic 5/5

Not any great spot to stand but it works well enough. Delighted to confirm the freaky geese are still there. This time they were stopping traffic

This is a massive rest stop. I can highly recommend it. But when walking around the trucks, I had no luck (it took me about 45 minutes). After that, I moved to the exit with just thumbing with a sign, and it was pretty fast all the way to Leeds.

Awesome spot for hitching. Large gas station. And there is an awesome view of the lake if you have a time to chill out I highly recommend to check it out.

I was very lucky, I ask to the first person at the gas station and he was going north to dundee (Scotland M6)
I don’t know if it the best but it work for me. I went by bus here.

Shower, divable dumpster and a good camp spot. What more could you want. Also a quick lift

Take a train from Manchester, Bolton to Blackrod. You can see how to walk to here from the train station (10-15 minutes). Easy to catch a ride straight to Glasgow or Edinburgh

J20a, people will not stop for you despite very substantial on ramp. In fact, you'll get abuse and stuff chucked at you. People from Warrington are lovely.

Asking around at this truck station is your best bet instead of the ramps. Trucks tend to be heading South especially in the evening but there are literally a hundred rigs there later in the day, and although most are laid up you will probably be able to get a night journey. There is a Cafe (expensive) where you can chat to drivers or just walk around with a sign, which works for me. Had one of the best rides ever in the UK from here.

Bolton West service station. I have never used these services to hitch from, but I have stopped there several times as a driver. I would speculate that it's a bad spot for hitching. The service area is very run down and last time I went it was due for major refurbishment. I'm not saying don't use it, but maybe it's best to avoid if you can find another way.
